unzip files in windows 10

I see multiple questions about unzipping files in windows 10 with the same exact response about opening the folder via 'windows icon +E' which I can use to open a folder but I get no option for unzipping other than I need to download Winzip.  Is this functionality not included in windows 10 as it has been previously?  **Please don't just post the same copy and paste response that didn't work for quite a few people based on comments from your site.**The steps below DO NOT WORK for windows 10.  I've been using previous versions of windows for years and while this used to work it doesn't in your new version.

  1. Locate the zipped folder that you want to unzip (extract) files or folders from.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To unzip a single file or folder, open the zipped folder, then drag the file or folder from the zipped folder to a new location.
    • To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, selectExtract All, and then follow the instructions.

Hi Jaime. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Use the Compressed FolderTools which appear at the top of File Explorer when you open any zipped file. Beneath it you'll see Extract. The same option will appear on the right click menu when you right click on an Extracted file.

See here for illustration on unzipping: http://www.simplehow.tips/a/56/how-to-zip-and-u...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi Jaime, the instruction:

Right click a zip file, choose 'Extract All...' is the standard way to unzip an archive in Windows 10

However, there is a lot of archiving software out there and Windows cannot handle a lot of the non-standard zip files

The best free utility for extracting archive files is Universal Unextractor, it does not install a program, it just adds functionality to the right click context menu in File Explroer . ..

    https://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract

Install that software, then right click a zip file and choose 'Extract Here' or 'Extrac to Sub-folder'

If that utility does not work, the zip file is probably corrupt
