How to create a playlist (in windows media player) based on MP3 files in folders

Hi.  I have MP3 files inside different folders and I want to create a playlist/burn list quickly from the folders.  Is there a way to do this?  Manually dragging and dropping is too time consuming.

I dare say I shall stick with WMP as long as it is around - in fact since I took the Revolver screenshot I have reverted to WMP as default because I noticed that iTunes has the (unappealing) setting of adding anything played to the library. I have quite a lot of audio files in my Documents folder because I don't want them in any libraries! I cannot see any setting in iTunes to counter that behaviour.

Thanks for updating - glad you have found the work-arounds useful... Cheers, Ric.

    Hi,

Burning is an act of copying music files, pictures, and videos from your PC to a blank CD.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to burn a CD. You really need to drag and drop the music to the list pane to create a burn list.

You can also refer to this article for more information.

Feel free to post back if you have other concerns.

Hi - thanks for the update... one of the problems with the design of W7's music library was that it was easy to corrupt it by deleting or relocating files. It sounds like your library is corrupted so it would be a good idea to sort that out first - then you won't have to check to see if the files are there.

First thing to do is to move any folders you do not want to appear in WMP (like downloads) to your 'Documents' folder. WMP does not read the contents of 'Documents'.

Do that and then we'll rebuild your library so that only your music folder files appear... this process will also remove any 'orphaned' items that no longer work.... how does that sound? - R.

Thanks to RicW-nw and Arjay Dom for the suggestions.  I am happy to create the burn lists from within WMP but just want to do it quickly.  WMP currently displays audio files that are no longer on the computer, and it shows audio files form all locations on the computer: the download folder, sample music that came with the computer, etc. I am just looking for a way to have WMP just display the audio files in a specific folder, for example, so that I can highlight all of them at once and drag them to the burn list quickly.  The burn list I created the other day took too long because I had to right-click each audio file to check it was in the folder I created just for this audio CD, and then drag it to the burn list, and then scroll up and down to find the next audio file and, after doing the same thing, drag it to the burn list, etc.  I played around with display options, hoping that WMP lets one display audio files on a per folder basis, but found no obvious way to do it.  Also, I browsed the web hoping to find out how to do that but did not find anything.  Any additional information on how to setup views in WMP to do this would be very much appreciated.  thx.

Your best bet is to create the lists within WMP rather than going to Folders - you may find rearranging the views available (there are many options) can help sort tracks more easily but in the end you are still going to need to drag/drop them.

If you want more info on how the views in WMP can be manipulated get back... R.
