MY LENOVO LAPTOP SPEAKERS JUST STOPPED WORKING

I HAVE A 2017 LENOVO YOGA 700 11/SK LAPTOP. IT'S A GREAT LAPTOP, BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SPEAKERS JUST QUIT ON ME. I TRIED TO DO SEVERAL FIXES. I FIRST TROUBLESHOOTED. I TRIED REPLACING THE DRIVER. THE HEADPHONE JACK WORKS, BUT NO SPEAKER. BLUETOOTH WORKS. I TRIED REBOOTING THE WHOLE SYSTEM AND THAT DIDN'T BRING THEM BACK.

THEN SOMEBODY TOLD ME IT WAS A MICROSOFT UPDATE THAT TOOK MY SPEAKERS AWAY. EVEN WHEN I REBOOTED MY LAPTOP, IT JUST UPGRADED THE SPEAKERS AWAY AGAIN.

NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS TRUE, BUT BEFORE I SEND MY COMPUTER OFF TO THE COMPUTER DOCTOR TO GET REPAIRED FOR LOTS OF MONEY, I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF MICROSOFT SCREWED MY LAPTOP SPEAKERS UP.

THANK YOU IF YOU CAN HELP, RICH

    Hi Rich,

Let us try resolving your speaker concern. We suggest that you try resetting the sound device. To do this, go to Device Manager; then, right-click on the sound device and choose Uninstall. After uninstalling, restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the sound device.

We would appreciate it if you could get back to us and provide us your feedback.

The Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is the one that manage audio devices for the Windows Audio service. We suggest that you set their startup type to automatic (screenshot below):

To set these to automatic, you may follow the steps below:

    1. Press Windows key + R then type services.msc and hit Enter to open Windows services list.
    2. Now locate the following services:

    Windows Audio

    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Plug and Play 3. Make sure their Startup Type is set to Automatic and the services are Running, either way, restart all of them once again. 4. If Startup Type is not Automatic; then, double click the services and inside property window set them to Automatic. 5. Make sure the above services are checked in msconfig.exe. 6. Restart your computer to apply these changes.

Your reply is most important to us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

I DID WHAT YOU SAID AND GOT NOTHING. I RAN A TROUBLE SHOOTER AND IN DETAILS IT SAID SOMETHING I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND:

One or more audio service isn't running Issue not present
--- --- --- ---
Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running.
Audio services not responding Issue not present
--- --- --- ---
NOW I KNOW THE WINDOWS AUDIO IS RESPONDING BECAUSE THE SOUND METER MOVES WITH A SOUND TEST, JUST NO SOUND COMES OUT. WHAT I DON'T KNOW IS WHAT IS WINDOW AUDIO END POINT BUILDER SERVICES. I ALSO DON'T THINK IT'S A DRIVER BECAUSE THE SOUND METER GOES UP AND
DOWN WHEN I PLAY TEST SOUNDS, JUST NO SOUND COMES OUT OF THE SPEAKERS.

IT'S JUST THAT MY AUDIO WORKS JUST FINE, THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM. IT'S JUST LIKE MY SPEAKERS HAVE BEEN DISCONNECTED. THAT'S WHY THE BLUETOOTH WORKS, JUST THE SPEAKERS ARE WHAT DOESN'T.

I DID EVERYTHING EXACTLY AS YOU ASKED. IT DIDN'T WORK. I HAVE ONE MORE THING TO SAY BEFORE I GIVE UP AND BRING IT TO A PRO. Now that I did all the basic and intermediate stuff. I think a download update from microsoft disabled my speakers because they worked one day and didn't the next and I had an idea that if I had a way of rebooting and blocking the automatic update of what ever is doing this to my audio as it reboots that it would let the speakers work. I have reset the computer before but when it reboots it puts the update that took my audio away back on, you see? it's either that or remove all my up dates one at a time but that's not a guaranty because you don't know what did this to the speakers. THIS COULD JUST BE BLOWN SPEAKERS, BUT WHAT'S THE CHANCE OF 2 SPEAKERS JUST BLINKING OUT TOGETHER?

We appreciate your response. Since you already set the startup type to automatic and the issue still persists, we suggest that you perform a repair upgrade using the Windows 10 ISO file. To do this, you may follow the steps provided by Andre Da Costa on his article.
