Code 45 while using bluetooth devices.

I just got a new PC maybe 3-4 days ago and everything's been working perfectly, until today. Seemingly at random after a reset, my Bluetooth functionality is simply gone. Nothing in the system tray, nothing in the PC settings- gone.

So I went to my device manager, ticked "Show Hidden Devices" and lo and behold, my Bluetooth slightly greyed out.

I clicked through ALL of my bluetooth options (Device Identification Suite, Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + Adaptor) and right clicked to update drivers, but they're all up to date.

When I investigate further, I'm getting the error message "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)"

So I have no idea what happened here. Your thoughts?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft community.

This error message is not so much a problem as it is a way to let you know that a device is disconnected.

    1. What is the make and model of the computer and the Bluetooth device?

Please follow the methods mentioned below:

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to check if Bluetooth Service is started and set to automatic.

    a. On the desktop, press Windows key + R to open the Run Dialog.

    b. Type services.msc and press Enter.

    c. Check if the Bluetooth Support Service is started and set to Automatic.

    d. If not, right-click on Bluetooth Support Service and select Properties.

    e. From the drop-down, select Automaticand click on Start.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned under sections:

Make sure Bluetooth is on and Make sure Bluetooth enabled devices and other wireless devices are on and discoverable from the following link.

Okay, so I had this same problem. Running the troubleshooter revealed that I didn't have Bluetooth capabilities. This was weird because I had used it several times before. After reading several, several, articles on how to fix it, I found none that would work. After finding this one, I read something that made it click for me.

The following steps are derived from several articles and my own investigations. I have determined that after a Windows update this problem happened. If you have an integrated Bluetooth adapter then this might not have occurred to you, but the adapter is recognized as a USB connection. So to confirm that your problem is the same as mine do the following

    1. Open device manager
    2. Look for Bluetooth. If my problem is the same as yours, you won't find it.
    3. Look for Network Adapters and expand it
    4. You shouldn't see anything mentioning Bluetooth.
    5. Find Universal Serial Bus Controllers and expand it.
    6. You should see at least one that isn't working.

If the above is true, you can do this to fix it.

    1. Open device manager
    2. Scroll down to find Universal Serial Bus Controllers and expand it
    3. If you use a mouse with a USB adapter, you need to figure out which controller uses it
      1. Looking at the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, unplug your mouse.
      2. One of the images should go gray. This is the controller for your mouse.
      3. Plug the mouse in and you should see it become black again. If not, then you were looking at the wrong one. Try again.
      4. Make note of which controller this is
    4. Going down the list, uninstall EVERY device except the controller for your mouse*.* Uninstall all of them. It's okay because your computer will reinstall them upon restart.
    5. Now uninstall the controller for your mouse.
    6. Power off the computer
    7. Turn the computer back on

Do not restart the device. Some people have noticed that restarting (for some reason) doesn't work but turning it off and then on again (removing the battery as well for laptop users) does. Its best just to save yourself the trouble and shut it off completely the first time.

My diagnosis for this issue is because of several Bluetooth is not compatible errors, code 45 errors, and code 43 errors.  If you have the same problems but this does not work I recommend looking further into code 43 errors.

I followed your instructions and enabled automatic on both but to no avail. Then I decided to get the latest intel bluetooth driver and installed it. I still didn't see the bluetooth icon on my device manager.  At this point I decided to follow your instructions above but in reverse: I reverted the 2 auto to manual. then restarted my yoga. On the device manager i was surprised that the bluetooth icon reappeared with my previous bluetooth gadgets (mouse and speakers) included. I then paired up my lenovo n700 mouse and voila it worked again. hope this helps.

this is the intel link for the new BT download:

This also worked for me. To clarify, I turned the Bluetooth Support Service AND the Bluetooth Handsfree Service to Automatic. Restarted and then turned it to manual and then TURNED off the computer completely and then started it up again as opposed to restarting it.

The turn off and then start up was important because I noticed that I was also getting a USB error (even though my bluetooth is not plugged in, I think it might have been attached to the motherboard through use of a USB peripheral), code 43. Searching this code led me to this link (https://www.lifewire.com/43-errors-explained-2619238) and as a result I did the turn off and the manual switch at the same time.

So anyway, heads up, if you're also getting an error code 43 and a USB issue then turn off your system completely and then start it up again, DON'T actually Restart it.

I understand that the error code tells me the bluetooth device is no longer connected to the computer, namely in my case the Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth (R) 4.0 HS Adaptor. My question is how do I reconnect it? I have gone through everything in Device Manager, Windows 8.1 settings, etc, but I have no idea how you reconnect this equipment. This is inside a HP laptop, only a few weeks old and under warranty so I cannot go playing around with the internal boards even if I knew where to look. I am having to rely on the touchpad at the moment and this lap top must have one of the most awful stiff to use touch pads in history so I need to know whether this is a faulty unit and needs to be returned for repair or not.
