CMD not opening

Recently I have discovered a problem.

Everytime I try to open cmd it opens up, briefly flashes and then closes. I have always ran it through the 'run' option (Windows button +R), when this happened for the first time, I tried to open cmd as an admin, still having the same issue. It happened about a week ago for the first time. I tried to run the Windows recovery point, but the issue wasn't fixed. Is there any way to repair this issue without having to restore the computer to factory settings? I really need to use cmd, since I do most of my work in Free Pascal, which requires cmd to run the written programs.

Thanks in advance for the answer.

Note: I do have cmd enabled, didn't turn it off myself. Maybe the os disabled the option to open cmd on its own?

My laptop:

Acer Aspire VX5-591G

Intelcore i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz

16GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050ti 8GB

can you use Powershell as an alternative?

What happens if you go to C:\Windows\System32 via File Explorer and run cmd from there?

Have you created another user account to see if the problem persists there?

You could try creating the Administrator account then sign in.

    Open Start, type: CMD

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

    At the command prompt, type:

    net user administrator /active:yes

    Hit Enter

Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.

If that does not work, I recommend you perform a repair upgrade:

    Hello again,

so I've tried both options you recommended, but it didn't solve the issue. Is there still another option I could try?

I also realized that this issue appeared about 2 Windows Updates ago, before the larger one about a week ago. Should I try to go back to the previous Windows 10 version?

    Thanks in advance,

    Simon Sperl.

If you are running Windows 10 1709, try uninstalling KB4048955.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Click View installed updates

    Select the recent update

(This is the update you want to uninstall KB4048955)

Right click it then click uninstall.

Restart then see if stability is restored.

The update might try to install again. So, try blocking it.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?

Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:
