How to Make Windows 10 Automatically Connect to a VPN on Startup. (sign in or boot)

When are we going to see an option to automatically connect to VPNs at startup (system boot or sign in) on Windows 10? The last two updates, Creators, and Fall Creators improved VPN interaction, however, didn't quite go far enough. All the current options don't work well or at all. Placing shortcuts into the startup folder, creating tasks using task scheduler etc. The closest I've got was using the steps shown in the below link. Can you specify if this is something Microsoft/Windows is looking at implementing?

I have seen countless threads discussing the idea, so it seems highly sort after. It would also reduce the need for third-party programs and apps that run in the background using resources to manage the task.

Thanks

Jascha.

Hi Jascha234234, until Microsoft decide to add this functionality, here is a workaround that should work for you . . .

Create a new bat file and add the line below, editing Connection Name, UserName, Password and Domain Name

c:\windows\system32\rasdial.exe "VPN Connection Name" [username] [password] [/domain:domainname]

Save the bat file somewhere safe on your PC, then add a shortcut to the bat file in the folder below (Replace UserName with your login name:

    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

This idea is actually out there but it is an Enterprise solution using GPOs and Microsoft's VPN servers solution and SCCM. It is called AutoVPN.

Also Microsoft does have something called DirectAccess which is a form of VPN that is always connected all the time. But again that will need to be configured in a Domain environment.

I glanced over this earlier, however, it seems quite complicated having to use a Domain environment. Thanks for the quick reply :) I was hoping we would get a simple tick box similar to when connecting to Wifi networks.
