During windows 10 pro setup, the "Who owns this PC?" screen does not show off

Hi,

I made a windows 10 Pro bootable usb key to install windows 10 Pro on computers of my company.

Sometimes the "Who owns this PC?" screen shows off, some times it don't. I have been doing the setup 4 times on a specific desktop and it never showed up.

I want to link the user to an Azure AD account, i don't want to create a local user on the computer.

Do you know why this screen does not appear ? And to you know I can fix this problem.

I always use the same usb key.

Thanks

Valentin

When the "Who owns this PC?" screen does not show up, I have the "Create local user account" screen, so I never have an account name with garbled letters.

Think that we are on to something with this statement. The end result it the same with either question. What is the common denominator?

One would think "Who owns this PC?" would come up if system was offline, while "Create local user account" would come up if the computer was online because now it wants to set up a local user account.

Now we know that could not be the case as you mentioned that these are all desktops, so I must assume that they are all hardwired for internet access.

Even if you are prompted to setup as a local account, you can always join Azure AD after setup.

I think that is even better, OOBE is never the best option to sign into either a MS Account or join Azure.

Open Start > Settings > Accounts > Access work or school

    Click Connect, then sign in

    • the third one, same, no problem. I did delete the partition though.

I will try again the first one by deleting the partitions and I'll let you know.

My aim is to spend the less time as possible when I set up a desktop for a new person. That is why I like to link it straight to Azure AD account.

As I have never seen this, just thinking that in the MBR or UEFI System Reserved partition there already might be something there that has this information from previously already and that is why it is not asking for Who Owns this PC.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I use a custom install an format (not delete) the existing partition.

I'll make a new flash card and try again, but today, I have setup 3 desktops:

    • the first one, 4 times, i have never seen the "Who owns this PC?" screen and I had to launch windows update myself at the end.
    • the second one, I got straight the "Who owns this PC?" screen, and the windows updates start automatically.
    • the third one, same, no problem. I did delete the partition though.

I will try again the first one by deleting the partitions and I'll let you know.

My aim is to spend the less time as possible when I set up a desktop for a new person. That is why I like to link it straight to Azure AD account.

I have never seen an issue as to what you are reporting in all my years. As for me, I always install a system offline as I prefer to tie my user account into whatever name I choose.

I can only suggest in your case to make up another bootable usb flash card.

Just for a note, when you do your clean install, are you using a custom install and deleting all existing partitions on the hard drive? This might have some bearing in what you are seeing.
