Hello,

The pre-installed windows on my samsung laptop seems to need a repair. The self repair is not working, I don't have the recovery disks, and Microsoft won't let me download the Windows 7 Install Disk using the laptops Win7 registration number that came with the laptop, it says to contact Samsung.

Any other options?

Borrow an install disk from a friend.  This is not a brand specific disk, although you may see branding on the disk itself.

As long as it has the typical brand name label on it, matches the Windows 7 edition (home, pro, etc.) and bitness (32 or 64) of your legitimate Microsoft Product key, you can use it.

You may download genuine Windows 7 copy from third party source. Burn it to disk or USB flash using  Windows USB/DVD Download tool and install it. Then you can activate it with your original key. Make sure to download/install same version that you currently have installed on your laptop. The key won't work for other versions.

Update: called samsung the manufacturer as microsoft suggested but samsung advised they cannot provide an install CD.

I'd rather not get a copy from 3rd party as I want to make certain it doesn't have any unwanted imbedded viruses.

So what do you say microsoft, how do I get a windows install CD for a product I own? Not sure why microsft restricts the download from pre- installed software owners.

You may verify MD5 and SHA1 of ISO image files of Windows 7 setup to make sure it is not tempered.
