Printing continually stuck in queue after printing

My Surface Pro is stand alone and not on a network. Each time I print a document (Word or PDF) it gets stuck in the print queue. I need to do three steps to free the printer.

Firstly I go to 'Services app' and scroll to Print Spooler and Stop the service. I then need to go to 'C:\windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS' and delete print files. I then need to go back to Service app and Restart the print spooler before I can print my next document.

I did not have this problem until a recent update of Windows 10.

    Hello,

Print jobs can be stuck in queue due to an outdated printer driver. If you recently installed a Windows update, it is best that you check for available device driver updates too. While it's likely you already have the most recent driver, if you're having trouble with a device, you can try fixing it by updating the driver or reinstalling it. Here's how:

    1. Select the Start  button, typeDevice Manager, and select it from the list of results.
    2. Expand one of the categories to find the name of your device, then right-click (or tap and hold) it, and select Update Driver. For graphics cards, expand the Display adapters category, right click your graphics card and select Update Driver.
    3. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
    4. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

Should you have further questions, please let us know.

    Hi there

Thanks for the reply. In the end I downloaded the printer assistance software from the manufacturers website and reinstalled the printer. Problem seems fixed.
