WINDOWS DEFENDER CONTROLLED FOLDER ACCESS: NVCONTAINER.exe

I have an ASUS ROG STRIX gaming laptop.  All WINDOWS updates have been applied.  The laptop runs NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX.

Beyond the default settings for Controlled Folder Access I've added other folders that hold my own data files from EXCEL, WORD, OUTLOOK, QUICKEN, etc.

The consistent item blocked is this NVIDIA program: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NvContainer\nvcontainer.exe has been blocked from modifying %userprofile%\Videos\Tdbswd56spcap by Controlled Folder Access.

  • it appears that nvcontainer.exe is trying to update a video driver.
  • How can I determine whether nvcontainer.exe is true NVIDIA executable?
  • What is the directory: Tdbswd56spcap?  I can't seem to find it.

I have this same problem.  I'm fairly certain this is NVidea related, but not sure why it's trying to create (?) a file named Tdbswd56spcap in my Videos folder.  Could be benign, but could be a problem.  I'm not allowing it until I find out for sure.

The notification occurs to notify the user that the operation was blocked/prevented.  If we know why the Nvidea software is accessing that folder, then we can make an intelligent decision as to whether to configure Window Defender controlled folder access to allow it.  If only Nvidea could let us know why that folder is being acessed.

    CPU: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 860 @ 2,80GHz

Memória: 8 GB de RAM (7,99 GB de RAM utilizável)

    Resolução atual: 1366 x 768, 60Hz

Sistema operacional: Microsoft Windows 10 Home

    (Google)

There is not even a computer expert but this has been happening in a week or so, and I found it very strange, because I always turn on the computer Windows Defender sends me this message, I came to think it was a change but if you are so may be something from Nvidia.

Same problem, this phenomenon seems to come back to each version update of Windows 10 and disappears until the next ...

The question is also raised on the Nvidia forum but unanswered for now.

I take the opportunity to ask a naive question, what is the point of informing the general public by this type of very pointed notifications that generates only worry?

James, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with this issue.  DannyMac
