KB4058043 Store reliability improvements for Windows 10 v1709 resets entire desktop and makes other wholesale changes

Hello,

I understand that Windows 10 is a service that needs to update itself. My problem is that when KB4058043 updates, it changes my desktop and many other settings ENTIRELY. I have to use system restore to get my desktop and other settings back. I've used 4 different methods to stop or block this update, including the metered connection setting, but the update keeps installing itself. I turned Updates off and tried several other ways I found while searching the internet for a solution. My computer has no problem with any other updates, just this one. I would like to work WITH this update if I cannot stop it from installing itself, but the changes it makes are so dramatic that I don't know where to start. At least this problem has me updating everything every single day now, so that's good. Running System Restore on a regular basis is not acceptable. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Jeff

What is the complete build#. >> Is it 16299.192.

    Is this a 32bit OS

This KB4058043 is not on my 64bit system nor windows update has downloaded to install after just checking.

    This was a December 15, 2017 update

What do you mean it changes your desktop and other settings, be more specific.

A change to your network or corruption to it can make all your desktop icons reset to default. In other words, if you have set the icons in a specific order on desktop, then they will all be reset to left side top to bottom in a selected order by windows.

    What settings are changing?

Uninstall KB4058043. You can go here and download and install this

2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892) ((or get 32bit cumulative if that is what you have))

    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB4056892

If KB4056892 is installed, uninstall KB4056892 and restart PC.

Then install KB4058043 and then install KB4056892

    then restart PC

If this does not work, uninstall KB4058043 and KB4056892 and restart PC.

Then install KB4056892 and then install KB4058043

    then restart PC

If this does not work, uninstall KB4058043 and KB4056892 and restart PC.

    Then install KB4058043

    then restart PC

    Then install KB4056892

    then restart PC
