We dont know why win10 enterprise is not updating to newer versions.

We are new to using Win10 Enterprise. We have used Pro before.

The version history is confusing to us.

When we use Winver we get version 10.0 (build 10240)

Do we have the latested ?

When we look at

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-info.aspx

We see that the the version we hve 10240, but where can we find the numbers after the 10.240

eg 10240.17741 that are listed in the MS article.

Also in the MS article it says the best is

Semi-Annual Channel 1709 16299.201 1/18/2018 1/18/2018 Microsoft recommends

How do we get this?

Thanks.

    Thank you for your answer.

Here's the thing. We have about 100 computers. Mostly win7 pro now.

We are obviously going eventually to win 10 . Two things.

All of the Microsoft conferences I have been at say that now with Win10 we dont need a virus protections program is built in.  (Bitdefender curretly).

However,  we like the ability to  view all the computers in the cloud that have Virus protection and if they are protected, like we have in bitdefender.  If we want this and we want to use MS Virus protections then MS has Advanced threat analytics. It only works with Win10 Enterprise.

This is why we want to go to Win10 enterprise.

However It seems what you are telling me is that to get updates for win10 Enterprise I have to download an iso version and update the computers when a new update comes out. Thsi seems a little odd.  Is that right

Frankly we bought Enterprise, and dont know if we eve have the latest now. Do we basked on the winver that I mentioned in the first post.

    We are confused.

I did try this but I did not find this clear.

I have a call in with my vendor tomorrow who have a "MS Expert" on site. I will pepper them with questions.

    thanks.

You are running the the first version of Windows 10.

Windows 10 is delivered as a service, with 2 (two) annual updates in the Spring and Fall.

Since 2015, Microsoft has delivered several version of the operating system, with to Long Term Service Branch releases.

    Windows 10 version 1507 - July 2015 - LTSB

    Windows 10 version 1511 - November 2015

    Windows 10 version 1607 - August 2016 - LTBS

    Windows 10 version 1703 - March 2017

    Windows 10 version 1709 - October 2017

    Windows 10 version 1803 - coming March 2018

The next LTSB is coming Fall 2019.

You are not required to use Windows 10 Enterprise, it is up to you if you want to upgrade to Pro or Enterprise.

Some of Microsoft Enterprise features will require the Enterprise client. Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection is one example.

That doesn't prevent you from using a third party solution, even with Enterprise or if you prefer Pro.

Windows Defender Security Center has greatly improved since the old Windows Defender client.

Windows 10 Enterprise is usually a managed client in large organizations. You normally have to publish the upgrade from the Network Administrator perspective using enterprise deployment tools. Or the user has to manually upgrade using the ISO downloaded from the volume license service center or MSDN if you have that.
