Windows 10 Update Stuck at 55%

Hello,

In the past couple of months I've been attempting to update Windows 10, but without success. My PC keeps telling me it wants to install updates, but when it gets to the updating part it never gets past 55%, no matter how long I wait. (Trust me, I've waited for unreal amounts of time)

Each time I end up either force shutting down my PC after it's been stuck on 55% for sometimes even days, or it simply crashes and "re-instates the previous version of Windows 10".

Any idea on what I can do? My computer is reminding me to update on a daily basis, and it's incredibly frustrating considering I've tried what feels like everything for months now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS: Just to clarify; this is a Windows 10 update. NOT an update to Windows 10.

you are not alone - i have exactly the same issue for months now, I've tried tons of suggestions, but its like there are a lot of "it worked for me " potential solutions out there - but so far none have worked for me !

    Hello,

Please confirm if you're using any 3rd-party antivirus software. If yes, we recommend to try disabling it and proceed on installing the said update.

If the issue still occurs, we recommend performing the steps below:

    Step 1: Delete Temp Files

    1. Press Windows key + R, then type in TEMPand press Enter.
    2. Delete all files and folders.
    3. Skip files that cant be deleted.

    Step 2: Delete %Temp% Files

    1. Press Windows key + R, then type in %TEMP% and press Enter.
    2. Delete all files and folders.
    3. Skip files that cant be deleted.

Step 3: Delete Software Distribution Folder

    1. Press Windows key + R, then type in %windir% and press Enter.
    2. Go to Software Distribution Folder.
    3. Delete all files and folders
    4. Skip files that cant be deleted.
    5. Check for the update.

We look forward to your response.

    Regards.

    Same issue here.

I have stripped all the hardware out of my PC down to the processor, motherboard, memory, graphics card and disk and still get the failure.

Might be software, still could be hardware might be dust, could be atmospheric conditions - don't know, and as a user I should not have to, it doesn't work and there is no information provided by the update process to help identify the problem.

    The End.

I printed out all the steps by M.Qui - 3 A4 pages of them !!

Surely there is an easier fix? i'm a business user - not a software engineer.

indeed- this windows update is really impacting my business now,

every time I leave my desk for 20 mins the PC starts a new update & gets stuck at 55%

when I get back to it I have to re-boot & re-install old version

to get access again - which takes about 20mins - is there another way ?is it possible to use net meeting& get

a windows expert who knows how to fix it once & for all?

    Alan

Thank you for your response. I tried this and let it run overnight, but it once again got stuck at 55%, so I went to bed and the next morning it was still at 55%. :/

My version of Windows 10 is 10240 and I'm trying to update to 16299. (That should indicate how long I've been attempting to update the darn thing)
