Graphic problem with certain games since updating Win10

Hello, I used to have Windows 7 but recently had to format my drives, so I decided to go for Windows 10.

So, in certain games the graphics (which should be pixelated, it uses sprites) look blurry, as if the fullscreen scaling was wrong.

It never happened on Windows 7, and my in-game settings are exactly the same.  All of my drivers are up-to-date. I've already tried the compatibility modes, nothing worked. I've also checked my Nvidia settings and my windows graphic settings, to no avail.

Any idea what might be causing this?

So your machine and brothers = Apples and Oranges, then.

    • Have you tried using your Intel HD2500 graphics with this game ?
    • It doesn't happen often, but with Win10 a few old games will run properly on AMD, but not on Nvidia, or Intel HD graphics

    (don't tell your brother though).

I only have one myself - Crimson Skies - which still runs great on my AMD card on Win10,  but not on Nvidia or Intel HD 4000/4400 graphics.

( With the Nvida & Intel HD the game gets black sections running through it so you can't see what happening.)

    • I have two other games that only run on the Intel HD, on my Nvidia machine (Chronicles of Riddick and Dark Messiah of Might and Majic).

"My Nvidia scaling is 125%. "

    • This would be the Windows Display setting that relates to text size ?

( I've never used the 'Experience'. I guess they may have this option there, but it's not in Nvidia Control Panel).

The scaling I am referring to are the three options in Nvidia Control Panel > Adjust Desktop Size and Position

Aspect Ratio- Full Screen - No Scaling.

With an old game with basic graphics  like Pokemon using a resolution that suits a 4:3/5:4 aspect ration (black bars on sides)

such as 1280x1024 is likely to result in the best image.

Forcing wide screen works well with some games, but with a lot of games it will stretch and possibly blur the image.

    • Every once in a while you get better results if you sync the monitors resolution with the one you are using in the game.
    • Have you also tried Compatibility option - Disable Full Screen optimisations( I don't recall if the few games that require this

don't load, or if the just look bad ) ?

Our PCs differ on CPU and GPU. He's into AMD, I prefer Nvidia. We both have Win10 1709.

    His:

    Athlon II x4 860K

    Radeon R7 250

    Mine:

    i5-3450

    gtx 550ti

My Nvidia scaling is 125%. If I leave it at 100% I see no change in-game. I'm trying to play it fullscreen (1920x1080), but it's also blurry if I play it windowed, any 16:9 resolution.

The game in question is a pokemon fangame named Pokemon Reloaded (I already contacted the guy who made it and we came to the conclusion that it was a problem in my PC settings).

I downloaded the game from the official site, so no steam or old .cfg/.ini files.

My nvidia driver is the latest one, 390.77. I also tried on 390.65. I did reboot each time I changed any settings on both system and Nvidia.

"My brother plays this same game in his PC running windows 10 just fine .. . I used to have Windows 7 but recently had to format my drives,

so I decided to go for Windows 10."

What games, and how does your brothers machine differ from yours ?

Are the games disk based or downloads from Steam or similar on line retail outlets ?

Which Nvidia graphics card are you using ? Win10 updated to 1709 ?

    • If you are using old game configuration files from when you were running Win7 you may need to delete the games .ini or .cfg

file and do the in game setup again.

"as if the fullscreen scaling was wrong."

What Nvidia scaling option are you using, and what resolution are you trying to run the game at ?

"All of my drivers are up-to-date."

To either, Nvidia v390.65 or 390.77 ?  Have you rebooted the machine after installing drivers or making changes

to system or Nvidia settings  ?

[Interesting thing about that other thread. Back then 1703 was the devil update. Now everyone wants to stay on 1703, because

1709 is supposed to be the new devil in town. Who want's to bet 1709 will be the good update when the next one hits town in

    a couple of months]

Hello, sadly I already tried that solution (just tried again to make sure).

With the Override high DPI Scaling option ticked, the game's loading bar looks fine, but the rest is still blurry (no change from before).

My brother plays this same game in his PC running windows 10 just fine. He didn't do any tweaking to get it working, however, so at least I know it's possible to play it.

    Hi,

With regard to your concern, it is possible that the components of your graphics driver is corrupted or needs to be updated. Since you're able to run the compatibility mode and the drivers are all updated, we suggest that you try running the app troubleshooter if your games came from Windows Store. If not, please check this link and follow the resolutions posted by BossDweeb on this thread.

If you need further help, feel free to post back and we'll be glad to further assist you.
