Hi Steven. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

I would uninstall any 3rd party antivirus and try running the built-in Defender which gives adequate protection, least issues, and is from Microsoft who knows how to protect their OS best.

If you have programs that won't install normally, you can try in Safe Mode with Networking, or Safe Mode: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

You can also go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This solves many problems and will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi stevenjones4, 404 is a server error on the Kaspersky side, your best option is to download the offline installer and install from that - direct links below . . .

    Kaspersky 2018 Anti-virus:

    Kaspersky 2018 Internet Security

Installation error. Fail to download necessary installation files: Server returns error 404 (files are missing)

Cause of the error might be:

    No Internet connection.

Firewall, in whose allowing rules a rule for a Kaspersky Lab product is missing, is installed on your computer.

    Product distributive is outdated.

    To resolve the situation:

    1. Check if you have the Internet connection

Check if you have the Internet using Internet Explorer. If you have no Internet access, then contact your Internet provider to find out the reason. Try to install the program when the Internet connection is restored.

    1. Check Firewall settings

If Firewall is installed on your computer, make sure that an allowing rule is created for the avp.exe process in the Firewall settings.

Firewall provides secure work in the LAN and on the Internet. Firewall is a program which monitors data transferred via Internet or local networks. According to the Firewall settings, it blocks or allows data transferring.

    1. Download the latest product version

Installation files of your distributive may have become outdated. In order to download the latest product distributive, do the following:

Download the program distributive from the Kaspersky Lab site:

    http://www.kaspersky.com/kav_latest_versions?_g...

In the open window click Save.

In the Save as window select the location to save the distributive (Desktop is the default location) and click Save.

When the file download is over, click Close.

    Re-run the program installation.

    1. Try to install in an hour

If the recommendations described above did not help to resolve the problem, try to install the application later (in about an hour).
