Error 182 when updating AMD Software.

A couple of years ago I started to receive Error 182 when the above software tried to update. At the time I was advised (with some impatience) to wait while the Windows Update system found the solution and automatically updated my computer. That worked and I had no further problem until I downloaded the latest Windows10 upgrade and it has re-appeared. I have waited some time for Windows Update to again detect and rectify Error 182. How long is the reasonable time to wait? More fundamentally - all of the advertising for this AMD software seems to revolve around serious gaming, I am not a gamer - do I need this software at all??

Well your ATI/AMD video card and software will not work for windows 10 you had installed. You can uninstall all the video card software in Programs and features. and you can see if there is drivers and software for your PC make and model # for windows 10, if not you must use the generic drivers windows installed for 10 and if you installed software such as CCC, uninstall it.

You can also uninstall your drivers for your video card, restart PC and windows will reinstall them.

I am Pro AMD all the way. I run most all my PC's with AMD boards/sockets and Video.

    Code 182

    Possible Cause

The AMD Radeon Software Package contains generic drivers that supports a wide range of AMD graphics products.  A possible reason why the AMD Installer had failed to identify your graphics hardware and cannot continue installation is because it belongs in one of these unsupported product groups:

    - AMD Embedded graphics
    - Legacy AMD graphics
    - Customized AMD graphics for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) system

Sir, do you see my previous post, I actually copied the web page here. When you click on that web link it shows what I posted on my last comment.

I do not have a clue what you say about all these numbers etc. Makes no sense to me.

Then for your model Lenovo G585, it has additional models to that model number such as type; 20137 or 2181 or 22181 etc.

For the basic model Lenovo G585, I see no drivers for windows 10 only for windows 7 & 8.

Therefore you have to use the generic Microsoft drivers for 10. Since you did an upgrade from 7 or 8 to 10, then it probably is detecting the old drivers or software for your card that is displaying this error message

you say - More fundamentally - all of the advertising for this AMD software seems to revolve around serious gaming, I am not a gamer - do I need this software at all??

    WHAT SOFTWARE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>????????????

No you do not need this software and go to programs and features and uninstall any AMD graphics software. If it was installed for 7 or 8, it most likely will not work in 10 without uninstall and reinstall if it will even work in 10.

    Hello again seahawk65,

I have looked at most of what you suggest by following your previous answer but I will try again to understand the long list of numbers it produces. Unfortunately I am not in the position of seeing how these numbers relate to what I am trying to do. I may be trying to over simplify but I need information which asks which computer I am using, which version (W10) and then tells me exactly what to do. If this information has already been the subject of a Windows Update, what is the KB number of that update??

My laptop is a Lenovo G585, the processor is listed as AMD E-300 APU with Radeon (tm) Graphics 1.3GHz

Thank you for your continued interest

    Hello seahaws65

I'm sorry to show my lack of expertise but when I check your suggestions and link I' m faced with long lists of numbers and I have no idea at all how these relate to my problem, if indeed they relate at all. I can tell you the current driver listed under Display Adapters is AMD Radeon HD6310.

Surely there is an easier way to find the compatible Windows download.

    Thank you again  M.Cutlan

You say you get error 182

This page explains the reasons and links to update the system drivers.

You may need to do a BIOS flash but this is usually graphics only issue.

Error 182 – AMD Installer Cannot Properly Identify the AMD Graphics Hardware

    Article Number: GPU-KB182

    ContentMain1

This article provides information about Error 182 when using the AMD Installer to install graphics drivers.

The contents of this article is organized into the following sections:

    - Possible Cause
    - Solution

    Possible Cause

The AMD Radeon Software Package contains generic drivers that supports a wide range of AMD graphics products.  A possible reason why the AMD Installer had failed to identify your graphics hardware and cannot continue installation is because it belongs in one of these unsupported product groups:

    - AMD Embedded graphics
    - Legacy AMD graphics
    - Customized AMD graphics for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) system

    Solution

If you know the model of your AMD graphics hardware, you may use the AMD Driver Selector to locate and download the appropriate driver.  However, if you do not know the model of your AMD graphics hardware, please refer KB article: How-To Identify the Manufacturer and Model of an AMD Graphics Card before using the AMD Driver Selector.

For customized AMD graphics, we recommend obtaining the latest driver from the OEM System Builder or Partner Manufacturer.  For a list of OEMs and Partner Manufacturers, please see AMD Partners: Add-in-Board, Original Equipment & System Builder Configurations

If you are still unable to resolve Error 182 after completing the steps outlined above and need further assistance, please contact AMD Customer Care and attach the AMD Installer log file to your service request.  The AMD Installer log file is located in C:\Program Files\AMD\CIM\Log\Installer.log

You need to put in your make and model of your PC and see if it has system drivers for Windows 10 OS. If so download and install all of them. But first go into device manager and uninstall the Graphics card drivers and then install what you downloaded and restart PC.

If it does not have your drivers for Windows 10, then still do the uninstall graphics card, restart PC and then let it install the drivers again and see if this fixes the issue.

Can you provide me with your Brand and model of your PC or laptop.

Also, Go into programs and features and see if there are any AMD graphics software such as CCC Catalyst Control Center and uninstall it.
