Unable to remove old program item in Startup Task Manager Windows 1607

I uninstalled W7 IDT audio program the correct way with Programs and Features in Windows 10 Anniversary (1607) and it left a remnant behind in the registry and in Task manager Startup called "Program" with the command: "C\programs"Files\IDT\WDM\sttray.exe. There is no such folder in C:\ and no keys or items in the registry anymore named or related to IDT. Also deleted the Uninstall container IDT.

I either have a corrupted registry (ran SFC /Scannow that repaired all corrupted files "successfully") or there is an orphan (link) with no name in the registry that runs in Startup (remnant from IDT). I had a similar issue years ago with Vista and also did not see that item in Run and Run once but found something under a different key "Namesakes" or something like that I deleted and that removed the bad entry in Startup. Unfortunately I cannot find any topics about that alternative run name location in the registry either in this forum or anywhere on the web.

Anyone knows what I am talking about please respond. I don't have a virus and never used CCleaner (don't want to use 3rd party fixes), my Windows 1607 is a recent clean install from ISO.

Thanks

Frank

    Thanks for the tip Nick.

CCleaner solved the problem, I did not want to use a registry "cleaner" but had no other option. It found the orphan link to the missing IDT program in the registry in seconds and after deleting, the bad entry in Start-up Task Manager was gone. The Start-Up module in the Tools menu did not show the bad entry but Registry scan did.

    Hi Frank,

Your concern about removing old/invalid programs in the Startup Task Manager might require some changes in the computer's registry. The steps is more complex than what is typically discussed in the Microsoft Answers forums. Even though I cannot answer your question, I want to help you out by directing you to the right channel of support. The topic is better suited for the IT Pro audience on TechNet.
