well kept happening, but disabled the update service. nice OS microsoft.
Windows 10 Update prevents most apps from starting until system restore
this is the third time I have come home and my computer has restarted itself (assume it has installed some updates)
Which I hate, but I can deal with.
Problem is, no apps will launch afterward. ALL MS Apps give me a crash, and option to report/debut.
Stuff like Chrome, just tries to launch and disappear.
Nothing works until I go back to a restore point (which says it fails) but then I can start my apps.
If I can't control my updates, at least they should not prevent my fricking applications from starting... .ARRRRGHHHGHGHGHG
on the latest major revision of windows, whatever you guys call it. idiots update or something.

2018-01-11T03:43:47+00:00 if i it wasn't such a pain i would readily roll back to windows 7. I am willing to work with Microsoft on challenges, and I am savy, but this is not acceptable... i mean automatic updates, that results in no apps being able to start (besides the most basic hack apps). I mean a system point that fails, but my applications work... where does that leave me?

2018-01-10T02:08:30+00:00 i am on 1709 16299.192
what does this have to do with the app store?
I don't care for using the app store and probably never will.
My thinkpad shows up to date as of now. despite an update clearly installing when i went out for dinner (my reboot windows is after 5 by default, causing my issue launching almost every app, chrome, IE, all office apps to which i returned to a system restore point from last night.
Why are updates still so difficult after all this time, especially now that they are forced, unless I mark my network connection as metered connection, which if i go to a different location will change? or can affect other apps use of the network.

2018-01-10T01:53:50+00:00 Which version of Windows 10 is currently installed? See how to verify:

Start by running the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.
Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down to the bottom
Click Windows Store Apps
Click Run the troubleshooter
When complete try opening the Store again.
Also check if the Store works in another user account.
Press Windows key + R
Type: wsreset.exe
Hit Enter
Do this a couple times then try launching the Store again.
Your Antivirus might be interfering with the Store, try disabling it 'temporarily' to see if it launches.
Check Windows Update and install the latest updates. Sometimes Microsoft releases infrastructure fixes for the Store through Windows Update.
You can also try resetting the store app using the following instructions:
https://www.groovypost.com/howto/reset-windows-...
If that does not work, try resetting the software distribution folder:
Before carrying out this procedure, disconnect from the Internet. That means turning off Wi-Fi and disconnecting from a wired connection. If you don't, Windows 10 will indicate some files are in use and cannot be modified or the command will be non-responsive. Also, you should restart your computer after disconnecting from the Internet. The easiest way to do it is to enable Airplane mode from the Action Center - Windows key + A.
Open Start, type: CMD
Right click CMD
Click Run as administrator
Type each of the following then hit Enter:
taskkill /F /FI "SERVICES eq wuauserv"multiple times
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
rmdir C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
rmdir C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
Exit the command prompt then restart.
Check if you can launch the Store then update your apps.

Annoying, I know.
There are a few new controls in Version 1709 you can set at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Restart Options to schedule a time and require more notification.
If you get real fed up you can even block Updates as long as you keep a Metered Connection set: http://www.guidingtech.com/48828/delay-disable-...
For Update dysfunction there is a new guided walk-through from Microsoft for repairing Windows Update that leads up to resetting components if necessary: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/...
If you want to express your opinion on this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. You can even click the Share button there to generate a link to your Feedback to post back here for others to vote up or add to it. They will not even see it here.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
