Logitech Unifying Receiver no longer recognized in Windows 10

Hi.

Suddenly, after a round of Windows 10 updates, my Windows 10 Home PC no longer recognizes my Logitech Unifying USB Receiver, which links my wireless mouse/keyboard. So I can't use my mouse and keyboard.

At first I thought the problem was with the USB device itself, so I bought a new one. But that isn't the problem  - the new receiver isn't recognised either, although there is the familiar sound when I plug it in.

The computer is an ASUS Zenbook Windows 10 Home 64-bit notebook. It was bought with Windows 10, and I have never had a problem before. The most recent update is KB 4074588, installed on 16 Feb. 2018. Could this be the problem?

I attach the USB receiver error message.

Please help. I work from home and I can't work without my mouse/keyboard/screen. It's urgent.

Thank you.

Lucy

What can I do? I cannot work

Yes, you should block it until it is fixed in the next cumulative update.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?

Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

    or

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

After downloading, launch it, click Next, wait while it detects pending Windows Updates.

    Click the Hide Updates menu.

Scroll through the list then select then select the update. Check the box next to the update then click Next to confirm changes.

Happy you got it fixed Lucy.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Click View installed updates

If the following KBs are are installed, right click each then click uninstall:

    • KB4074588

    If that does not work...

A failed Windows Update is the likely cause of this problem.

    Try these options:

Option 1: Perform a repair upgrade:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki...

    Option 2:

Power on and off your computer three times

On the third time, your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment

    Click Advanced Options

    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced Options

    Click Command Prompt (Admin)

Confirm the drive letter for the Windows image. Usually D: –> dir d:

Run the following to view the installed packages which will also show a date of install.

    Dism /Image:D:\ /Get-Packages

Find the package(s) that were just installed by date. Run the following command on the last installed package:

    example: dism.exe /image:d:\ /remove-package /packagename:Package\_for\_KB4014329~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0

    Reboot.

    Andre,

Just uninstalling KB4074588 worked !! I am over the moon. I've wasted about eight hours on this problem. Thank you so much!

And my next question is, does this mean I must never install KB4074588? Or what? Generally, I do install Windows updates for security reasons. What should I do?

    But mainly, THANK YOU !!

    Lucy
