Hello all togehter,

on Windows 10 1607 we created a virtual Smartcard, imported a certificate to use Microsoft VPN with IKEv2. Everything was working fine; Connect with VPN, enter PIN and Connection is established. After Update to 1709 (Version 16299.214) the VPN Window crashes when the Pop-UP for the PIN should be visible. In Eventview i can see the following:

Name der fehlerhaften Anwendung: SystemSettings.exe, Version: 10.0.16299.15, Zeitstempel: 0x7640753d

Name des fehlerhaften Moduls: twinapi.appcore.dll, Version: 10.0.16299.19, Zeitstempel: 0x63553d36

Ausnahmecode: 0xc000027b

Fehleroffset: 0x0000000000094ef5

ID des fehlerhaften Prozesses: 0x1124

Startzeit der fehlerhaften Anwendung: 0x01d3a3ea12246d15

Pfad der fehlerhaften Anwendung: C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\SystemSettings.exe

Pfad des fehlerhaften Moduls: C:\Windows\System32\twinapi.appcore.dll

Berichtskennung: f343ad6c-3202-4b74-a885-69d0b0cf7550

We Now have 2 Solutions temporary:

SOLUTION 1:

We can still connect with VPN when using the PBK File by entering:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\rasphone.pbk

SOLUTION 2:

I tried the following, too:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\Settings\Network\ReplaceVAN -> Set to 2

But then i can only open VPN Connection with side bar by clicking the Network Symbol in start pane.

Is there anyone who fixed the Problem or has an idea?

    Hello,

we noticed this problem from beginning of using 1709.

It doesn´t matter if we use existing Clients 1607 that where updated to 1709 or if we use Clients with fresh installed Windows 10 1709.

Our Clients are up to date 16299.214 but this error occurse on fresh installed 1709 without any updates, too.

We use the Windows 10 integrated VPN Client, configured with IKev2 and SmartCard authentication.

We open Settings -> Network and Internet -> VPN Then we click the VPN Connection and click on connect. Then it takes 1-2 seconds and the Settings Windows is closed suddenly without an error.

The same time you can see this here in Eventview:

As i can read and searched in Internet, there are many users with the same Problem. After click "connect" the PIN Message should be displayed to enter the pin for the virtual Smartcard. But this doesn´t.

    Hi Schmid,

The challenge that you encountered after updating your Windows 10 device might be caused by a corrupted update file. Kindly answer the following questions so we can isolate the cause of your concern:

    • When did this start happening?
    • What's the most recent program that you downloaded into your device?
    • Can you provide a screenshot of the error message that you're getting when you're trying to use the VPN?

You can also try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter which is a great tool that will search for updates and repair your device. It can be downloaded in this link.

Hope this helps and we'll keep an eye out for your response.
