VIA HD Audio driver no longer installs & works on Windows 10

Running the latest build of Windows 10 (have tried Pro & Enterprise to no avail - more on that later) my motherboard's audio drivers will not install automatically from Windows update any more. Used to be a case of pressing check for updates and waiting for it to install: on Enterprise it seems to work, but Windows update subsequently breaks and fails to check after the first check for updates when you install W10, hence why I am now using Pro.

On Windows 10 Pro it doesn't download the audio drivers from Windows update and thus I am left with the default "High Definition Audio Codec" which isn't specialised for my audio chipset.

I have tried installing the drivers from my motherboard's website (GIGABYTE 970A-UD3P rev1.0) which works - as in it installs - but the audio driver doesn't actually get used. Windows still continues to use the default driver.

If anyone has any insight into what maybe up with this that would be much appreciated.

(Just a bit of extra info, my audio chipset is VT2021)

From what I've seen, you may need to roll back the driver, maybe even your version of Windows.

Could you right click on your Start Menu and click Device Manager?

Look under section Sound and right click High Definition Audio Codec, go to properties. Go to Driver and Roll Back Driver.

Do you know what version you are running. You can check your version of Windows by by right clicking the Start Menu icon and clicking System.

You will see a field called version. What do you have in there?

Yeah, it sounds like it would be best to rollback Windows . Andre is right, there has been a lot of driver related issues with recent updates.

Well, install Windows 10 Pro version 1703, see how that performs and we can consider other options if it doesn't work.

Yeah I got the correct drivers from GIGABYTE's website. The newer model of this board uses Realtek audio I think, but my board uses VIA. I have tried forcing the driver installation through device manager already and it wasn't even listed despite the fact I had allowed incompatible ones to be selected. Hmmm...

I don't have access to my computer right now but I can't unfortunately roll back the driver to anything previous since it's a clean install. And as for the version, it's the latest Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update build.
