Intel - net Driver failed to install

Hello,

Recently I got a new laptop and as expected Windows has been updating a lot. All updates have been installed successfully except:

"Intel - net - 19.51.9.1". It says "Failed to install on (date) - 0x800705b4"

If I click the hyperlink for the "Intel - net - 19.51.9.1" it brings me to a sysdev.microsoft.com link about Driver Information that says "Driver Information: Coming Soon. Thank you for using Windows Update. The More information feature is not available yet. We apologize for any inconvenience."

How do I fix this error so that I can install the update? Thanks.

    Hi

I had the same message this morning and Windows update still say's "failed to install", but checking device manage it seems it is actually installed..... although Windows update states other wise....

Yet another "glitch" by the looks of things...

I'd suggest not to install the driver which is known to cause problems.

I had a recent (Sept 6, 2018) installation through Windows update on a relatively new machine (T470) bought early this year. The update caused huge lag to the Settings menu and removed my wifi config from the Network icon. CPU usage surged from a nominal 10% to 62% when virtually nothing was running.

At first, I didn't know how to uninstall it because Device Manager didn't show any Intel related device. I panicked and nearly attempted to reset the laptop. Went to Program Uninstall and found the driver (glad I guessed right the culprit was the driver update and not the Steam game I had installed at about the same time). Had to click on the Uninstall twice before it responed. After that, reboot and everything went back to normal.

If you Google Intel net driver, it is not hard too find people having problems with various versions of this driver. Don't touch it. You don't need it.

    https://www.lifewire.com/when-windows-update-ge...

    1. Alternatively, you can try the below:

    a) Start –> All Programs –> Accessories –> right click on Command Prompt -> select "Run as Administrator". Type net stop wuauserv to stop Windows Update Service.

Wait till you get : The windows update service was stopped successfully. " (DO NOT CLOSE COMMAND PROMPT).

    b) - Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    • Delete all files in "DataStore" folder
    • Delete all files in "Download" folder.

    c) In the Command prompt window, type net start wuauserv to start Windows Update service.

Restart your computer and try to get update again (this should fix the issue permanently).

Is anyone able to confirm whether this was caused by a bug or something as mentioned by "stuart-t" above, as I seem to have noticed the same problem? I've been getting updates when restarting but it always seems to tell me that it's uninstalling because of being unable to apply the updates, usually right at the end of the process. I've also noticed that this one (from back in Jan) is the only update listed which says that it failed and thought it might be linked to the issue I mentioned when restarting.

I've checked the driver details in device manager for the same Dual Band Wireless AC 7265 component and it shows up as being installed exactly like the image shown.
