    Hi Patrick,

This error can occur because of a problem with user profiles. It may be caused by corrupt registry entries under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList or invalid files in the \Users directory. Note: If an earlier upgrade did not complete, there may be invalid profiles in the Windows.old\Users directory.

To work around this error, we'd recommend that you create a new user account and start the upgrade there. If the upgrade is successful in the new user account, move all your files to the new account by following the steps below:

    1. Log in to your newly created account.
    2. In Windows File Explorer, click View > Options > Change folder and search option, click View tab and select the Show hidden files, folders and drives, uncheck the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.
    3. Locate the C:\Users\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy the user data from.
    4. Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click each file and sub-folder in the folder, except the following files:
    • Ntuser.dat
    • Ntuser.dat.log
    • Ntuser.ini

     5. Right click on the selected files and select Copy.

     6. Locate the C:\Users\New_Username folder, and then paste the files inside the new user folder.

Note: Make sure to create a backup of all the important files in your devices before proceeding to the upgrade process.

Let us know how it goes.

No help from microsoft.  Im at a complete loss amd dont know what to do.  My system is new and im not clean installing windows on a hardly used few month old system.  The only solution microsoft offers is delete all your data.  I'm not sure at all what to do anymore.  Im livid and microsoft refuses to help.  The computer didnt even come with windows, i spent over 100 on this for this nonsense

    Hi

    Two points in your mail

1/  My computer is an MSI Z87 GD65

      Intel I5 3,4Ghz

      8Go Ram

      3 hard disk

        1 SSD with the OS

        1 SATA with the programmes

        1 SATA with data

2/ Yes I've try to booot with all de devices disconnected

About the link you propose to follow is not about the same subject. For my case I came from W10 and I just want to update to W10

First off the solution offered helped nobody.  Secondly that is for upgrading from a different version of windows, and the "solutions" there most likely wouldnt apply to a system that has been running Windows 10, the most recent version of windows 10 at that.

    Hi Patrick,

The error you're experiencing might be due to incomplete installation of Windows or a corrupted update components of Windows. For us to better assist you, we'd like to ask a few questions:

    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • Have you tried disconnecting all peripheral devices that are connected to your computer, except for the mouse, keyboard and display?

In the meantime, you can refer to this thread and check the answer of Andre Da Costa to help you resolve the issue.

    Looking forward to your response.
