The questioner is referring to the Installshield software updater which is installed along with some programs to check for updates. (This is NOT the same as the full Instalshield program which you accurately described, and which does not remain behind running after an installation.) As you said, it's not malicious, but it is a nuisance. It often remains in place even after the related program is uninstalled. I have seen this running on many computers years after it had any value.
InstallShield - How do I unistall?
I would like to uninstall a type of utility software application called InstallShield from Flexera Software LLC. Does anyone know how?
I downloaded the application when I installed Excel PowerPivot but the application is designed in such a way that it cannot be easily uninstalled because:
- it does not appear in the list of programs under Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features;
- the application does not come with any uninstall feature in any folder on my computer.
At best I would describe this application as harmless, but it has all the features of annoying bloatware in that it sends useless notifications to my systems tray after being launched after start up. There does not appear any way to switch off, disarm or delete this software and its components (an updater)

2018-03-10T09:52:43+00:00 @GTS-NJ. Have you heard that PSI is going? Here are details, courtesy of the top Community expert there, Maurice Joyce.
Flexera have just announced that the PSI programme you may still have installed on your PC will become End of Life on the 20th April. There are no plans to replace it therefore it is best removed from your PC.
To the best of my knowledge there is no alternative programme available that can replace the output of PSI but there are programmes that come very close this being one:

In their parting shot Flexera offer the following advice:
For users looking to continue to keep their PCs safe, we suggest to use software best practices:
. Turn on automatic updating of all software that support it (e.g. Windows, Chrome, Opera, Firefox, iTunes, Quicktime).
. Always manually run updates on those applications that don't update automatically.
. Remember to restart your computers for changes to take effect.
. Uninstall software that's not in use, and search for updates for software you maintain.

2018-02-20T17:38:08+00:00 but it's part of the Flexera/Secunia installation wizard. And it disappears when you uninstall Flexera/PSI - I know that from experience. ;o)

2018-02-19T17:45:16+00:00 Flexera is the new name for Secunia. I have Secunia PSI - it checks your Apps and tells you if any need to be updated for security reasons. Others will tell you to update even if a change in an App is cosmetic.
Installshield is not a malicious app - it's the computing industry's chosen App to help users install any App. It's their 'Wizard', smoothing out installation of apps, that's why you won't find it in your list of programs. Most software companies, including Microsoft use the InstallShield wizard that's why it helped you install Excel PowerPivot.
So it's not malicious, it's not bloatware and it's not from Flexera - it's an indistry-wide tool.
So why do you want to delete it?
PS Install Secunia PSI from Flexera - you'll be amazed how useful it is!
Hoping this helps
