Keeping devices from automatically connecting via Bluetooth

Anonymous

I use Windows 10 and have a Bose speaker system and other devices paired with my laptop via Bluetooth.

When I have my TV on and connected to the speaker system and start my laptop, Windows 10 automatically

connects my laptop to the speakers cutting out the TV's sound.

Is there some way that I could keep Bluetooth ON and choose which paired device I want to connect without

Windows 10 choosing for me?

It seems this has been an issue for awhile.  Has Microsoft addressed it with a fix?

Thank you for getting back to us. If the built-in speaker is already set as the default playback device on your laptop, you can disable the Bluetooth of your laptop instead. To avoid unpairing the device altogether, you can just disable the Bluetooth function of your laptop. Once you re-enable the Bluetooth, your laptop should automatically connect to the Bluetooth speaker again. Follow these steps to manage your Bluetooth settings:

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth.
    3. Set the Bluetooth toggle to the desired setting.

Let us know if you have other questions.

I've tried disabling the Bluetooth earlier and again following your suggestion

and offer that this is not a workable solution.

With, on my laptop, my Bose speakers and other devices are paired but not connected and the

Bluetooth is turned off, if the TV is on and connected (using) the Bose system, the laptop will

automatically connect to the speakers (disconnecting the TV) when Bluetooth is toggled on.

Given the above, I have to go through a convoluted routine anytime I want to connect to a device (printer, etc.)  while the TV is on.  Connecting, disconnecting, pairing, reconnecting, disconnecting, etc. etc. isn't a real solution.

Hopefully there's another approach or a real solution coming in the Windows 10 upgrade

that I understand is to be out this year.

    Any thoughts??

    Hello Thomas,

You can configure the default playback device of your Windows 10 device to prevent it from automatically connecting to your Bose Bluetooth speaker whenever you power it on.

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Type Sound and then press Enter.
    3. In the Playback tab, select the built-in speaker or the wired speaker connected to your system.
    4. Click Set Default.
    5. Click Apply and then OK to complete.

With this configuration, you will need to manually connect back the Bluetooth speaker every time you want to use it as an output device.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks for the response.

The speakers built into my laptop are and have been set as  "default"

in the playback tab.  With this setting, the automatic transition to

the Bluetooth connected Bose system occurs.  This setting is apparently

    being overridden by Bluetooth.

EDITED AS REALIZATION STRUCK YOURS TRULY

Let us examine the Bluetooth Control Panel for a moment:

Now, obviously, once I activate my Bluetooth I can connect to any number of devices I wish.

Nevertheless...only to ONE of those at a time.

Since I just finished reinstalling Windows (and haven't yet gotten around to re-pairing with my devices) I can do this now.

Hotcha! Ain't we got fun, NOW!

So, device number 1. My Amazon Echo Dot. I'll pair that first.

First I dash across the room and plug it in...then dash back and turn my Bluetooth on and click "Add a Device"

    And there we are:

Now, say I want to connect my DOSS Speaker from Amazon (not in Bose's league, I'll grant you, but a great deal for the money).

So I dig the speaker out and switch IT on...but FIRST I must disconnect Echo Dot.

You'll note that it is Disconnected but still PAIRED

NOW I can connect my DOSS Speaker as above:

    (this takes about 8 days)

And there we are. I can now take this speaker into my bedroom and listen to all of the music (or whatever) that is on my computer or available for streaming from Amazon Prime (or any other streaming website) from the comfort of my bed.

The key seems to be...disconnect ( but do not REMOVE) what you are not using...restart what you are (for playback to start coming through) and enjoy!

Query: What has your Printer got to do with it?

Oh, right...Bluetooth Printers...well, as I said: ONE device at a time.
