I purchased the Halo Wars 2 ultimate addition, hoping to play it on my pc, and to play Halo Wars 1. The install button is greyed out so I cannot play either, and I've googled it and looked around and i cannot find an actual answer to this problem. everywhere i go its just more people asking and no solutions. what do i need to do to download and play this game?!

    so after quite a bit of tinkering here is how you get it to work in windows 10

    install the xbox app from windows store

    if you havent redeemed the code, do it from this app  or the windows store website

    open windows powershell in administrator (search power shell then right click and click run as administrator.)

    copy/paste this (this will reinstall any thing windows needs by default for the store and xbox app)

    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    push enter

    restart your computer

    open xbox app

    search for the halo you bought and when you click it, it should now take you to the store and install should be available.

    No i have done all that?? I have found how to resolve the issue. It may be found in "My Library" but can only be launched through the Xbox app on windows 10. You see i don't have an Xbox one so it can get confusing ESPECIALLY when you release a game for windows 10 and most of the install stuff says (and is currently said above) about an Xbox one... we do not care about the Xbox one if we are looking specifically for the related PC issues.

    Basically what i had to do (after i realised out of frustration) was create an xbox account using the xbox app on windows 10 and sign in. Then i could download the game (from the store) and play it by opening it in this app (Xbox App) (or by start menu, etc.)

    You see it NEVER tells about this. That you NEED an xbox account for play anywhere. In my mind play anywhere means linking, on the go, different platforms. I would expect for instructions on this as the store just tells you "play anwhere" 60gb etc... not very helpful for someone who wants to know why they cant play the game they purchased...

    Hello,

    What solved this issue for myself was the following. Open the Xbox App and sign in. Go to the search option, input halo wars, click on the PC version of Halo Wars 2. Then click view in microsoft store, you should hopefully be presented with the install button. I was very upset, seeing as I bought the Ultimate edition and already played through the game around launch. Using the microsoft store has been an unpleasant experience every step of the way.

    the issue is the install button is greyed out on the windows store page, despite me owning the game. so while it is listed as being compatible with windows 10, it will not let me even attempt to install it. this is the first game I've bought through the windows store.  i did not make any significant changes before i bought it and my gaming pc should be able to handle it, but i wont know until the store lets me install it
