The contacts are synced to the default MS account set up on the Lumia. Set up the same account on the iphone and the contacts will sync automatically to it - obviously you will need a working data connection on the phone for that. Much simpler than plug in and transfer and don't need a PC at all.

as microsoft no longer support the transfer of contacts simply by plugging your phone into the pc they have made the job of transferring much more complicated than it should be I for one am upset at the way ms have treat their loyal customers in buying the windows and nokia versions of this phone by withdrawing the simple plug in and transfer method

93tid is correct.  One easy way of transferring your contacts is by syncing it with your Microsoft account.  At this point, If your Microsoft account is in being used in your old handset / phone, one easy way of transferring your contacts is by getting the account signed into your new handset / device.

    Hi John,

Thank you for creating a post here.  Transferring of data from one device to another device can be done in several ways.  One way is by plugging in your phone device to your PC via USB cable and transfer the files from there.

Another method for transferring your files from one device to another is via Bluetooh.  However, transferring from Bluetooth may take longer than normal especially if the handset devices are not the same make and model.

The third option for transferring files is via a cloud storage such as OneDrive.
