LifeCam Cinema on Windows 10

Hi All,

I have a LifeCam Cinema webcam, which works fine on an old Windows 7 laptop. When I plug it into my Windows 10 Home machine exactly nothing happens, it is not detected by windows and it doesn't appear in the Device Manager.

I tried downloading the LifeCam software from here https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-gb/d/lifecam-cinema

the latest version available is for windows 7, i tried running that in windows compatibility mode but just get the message "LifeCam doesn't work on this version of Windows. An updated app may be available"

Does anyone at Microsoft know where this updated app may be? Is there no LifeCam software for Windows 10?

https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-gb/products/webcams/lifecam-cinema/h5d-00014#specsColumns-testCarousel

Clearly states that this device is compatible with Windows 10 and yet it doesn't appear to be.

Just to repeat, the camera is working, it works on a windows 7 machine and there is nothing wrong with the USB port on my windows 10 machine.

I'm slightly depressed to find lots of other people having similar problems with this Microsoft device (one of the reasons I got it is that I thought it would be guaranteed to work with a Microsoft operating system) Any advice on getting it working would be appreciated

There's no LifeCam software published for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Since the necessary troubleshooting steps listed in the article that we have provided wasn't able to resolve the issue, we recommend that you post this issue in our Feedback Hub. From there, you'll be able to submit a new issue where Microsoft developers will cater it.

We encourage you to submit your issue using the Feedback Hub.  You can either vote on an existing submission or submit a new issue. When you submit a feedback item we gather additional details and information about your issue that will help determine what’s causing it and address it. Feedback items regularly receive Microsoft responses on the submissions in the Feedback app so you can see what we are doing about your feedback. Please revisit frequently to see the status of your feedback items.

For more information on Feedback Hub, see our support article and YouTube video.

In order to submit new feedback, please follow these steps:

    1. On a Windows 10 device, search for Feedback Hub in Cortana search, then launch the app.
    2. Navigate to Feedback in the left menu, then press + Add new feedback.
    3. Select the Problem, and share any details you think are relevant, and choose an appropriate category and subcategory.
    4. Important: If possible, reproduce the problem(s) after clicking Begin monitoring (or Start capture) near the end of the form; Stop monitoring when you’re done.
    5. Once you’ve completed the form and monitoring, click Submit.
    6. Click Continue using Feedback Hub.
    7. Click My feedback at the top, then find the item you submitted (it may take a while to appear).
    8. Open the item you submitted, then click Share.
    9. Click Copy link, then paste the link here in your response (it will look like https://aka.ms/<unique link>).

Feel free to post back if you have further queries.

I think it is really disgusting that Microsoft shows the Microsoft Cinema on https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-gb/products/webcams/lifecam-cinema/h5d-00014#specsColumns-sysreqsas working with Windows 10 but it does not. So can I return the 2 cameras I bought?

The help provided by https://windowsreport.com/microsoft-lifecam-windows-10/ does work.

Shame on you Microsoft for telling lies and for failing your long term customers.

    Greeting To All End Users

Re: LifeCam Cinema Webcam Issue with Windows 10 (All Versions)

I have had my LifeCam Cinema work on all versions of Windows 10, with the exceptions of the April 2018 Feature Update.

That is until I discovered, that by default, the camera is disabled under Privacy Settings. The mic isn't, but the camera is. I know, it doesn't make sense to me either.

Normally, I like to perform a clean install of any of the Feature Updates Microsoft had provided. But I figured for the April 2018, I would just perform the update with the existing Windows 10 Fall Creator in tacked. After the Feature Update had completed, low and behold, the camera was disabled, and not the microphone.

Upon completion of the installation, I immediately view the Privacy Settings. There are settings that I disapprove of, and disable them. I would disable the camera and mic, which with the older versions of Win10 would not block the camera from third party apps, only Windows apps. This current update does.

In reference to the webcam not showing in the Device Manager, I am just as confused as you are.  However, I never encountered that problem.  Microsoft does provide a driver for both video and audio for this particular webcam. The software would have to come from a third party. For example, Cyberlink's YouCam 7 software

My question to you is, when viewing the device manager, do you see a "Question Mark" (?), or "Unknown Device". From past experience, if you see either, just right click on it, and select "Update Driver", and Windows will install the drivers.

Hmm, i've seen that article and it is of no use to me or anyone else on Windows 10. The first para says:

    "Symptoms

When you install the Microsoft LifeCam software, and then you plug in the LifeCam hardware, the LifeCam hardware is not detected. Additionally, in Device Manager, the properties for the LifeCam entry display one of the following codes or a different code:"

My problem is that there is no entry in the Device Manager for the LifeCam.. This means that it is not possible to update its drivers. So method 1 is no help

So far I have found no downloadable  LifeCam software, from the Mircrosoft site, that is compatible with Windows 10 version 1703. None of it will install (I have tried all the possible compatibility settings). So method 2 is no help.

As for method 3, I have never had a logitec webcam so am loath to start hacking away at my registry/

That article talks about Windows XP, Vista and 7. There is nothing about windows 10 in it.

Is there any LifeCam software for windows 10? It should be a simple question to answer considering its your product.

    Kind regards.

    Olaf
