Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question; I'm not real savvy with techie stuff..... Not even sure if I selected the correct category to post this question!

Is it safe to install Adobe Flash Player on my Windows 7 PC?  I may already have it, but it is not enabled or updated...what should I do?

Thanks!!

Safe?  Not as safe as NOT installing it - but generally, yes.

    https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

It's a third party product famous for having security holes and updated often - luckily automatically.  Open that web page in the web browser you use the most, download and install it if you need to use it somewhere.  If you don't need to use it, don't get it.

Again, if you NEED Adobe Flash Player: install it.  It's generally safe, bit like anything else, it's an added variable to the equation that makes up your computer - yes, it makes you less safe.  Again, however, if you need it - you install ot, use it, and

    • if wise - remove it once you are done.

Again, for quicktime, uninstall/remove it from Control Panel.  I don't know what it looks to be doing (updating?) on your computer - but given the YEARS that have past since it was discontinued - it is unlikely it is "updating" and unlikely that you need it.

If you are using Google Chrome, Flash is just 'there', so maybe you didn't 'change something'.

I'm a Windows 7 user too and I don't see any reason for installing Adobe Flash Player.

Why do you ask about it?

Please do not fall for weird pop-ups while browsing which urge you to update or to install Adobe Flash Player.

I suggest to take the time and to read: Best Practices for Safe Computing - Prevention of Malware Infection

    Follow up to my question....

I see I do have Quick Time...now not sure if these programs are similar duplicates.  I just installed Flash Player, but when given the option to "run" Norton displayed that the file is "inconclusive."  Help please???

Remove (uninstall) quicktime.  It was discontinued long ago.

Drop NORTON as well.  NORTON anything.  There are much better products out there for protection, most free.
