Windows Media Player no longer plays .wtv files

Oops, I made the mistake of trying to clean out my program files. I had a codec program called SAF which I didn't know what it was, and was not able to find out, except I discovered it was associated with MediaPortal which I had uninstalled over a year ago. After uninstalling SAF my WMP no longer played my .wtv files - it tries to play them, but looks like it can't decrypt the video. I found SAF again and reinstalled it, which required rebooting. However, WMP still can't decrypt the .wtv files. Does anyone have the solution to my problem? I have Win 8.1 Pro.

    In the link they even tell you WMP doesn't play it in its default install.

    If you had Windows Media Center apparently it would play it.

    Someone else may see your question; I've suggested VLC but you do not want to go that path.

    Replicate whatever you were doing the first time, or use one of the alternatives I gave you..

    Replicate? If you mean reinstall SAF, I've done that, as I said before. Are you trying to tell me there is NO SOLUTION?

    I'm trying to find out if someone is familiar enough with WMP to tell me if there are any options or reg settings that might solve the issue.
