How do I put my computer's screen video output on another video display using an HDMI cable?

I'm trying to have my computer's screen video appear on another video display (like my plasma TV) using an HDMI cable.

I can do this using my VGA video cable but there doesn't seem to be anyway to do this using my HDMI cable.

Does anyone know how to do this or know whether it can be done at all?

Your laptop has HDMI for sure.

So you can just go HDMI to VGA ... don't even need the cable I use (i have surfacePro)

Link provided has a diagram of how to connect.

I just did this over the weekend with one of my older TVs, turned into an extra monitor.

    I used miniport to HDMI.

Hi Jack. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

You want a single screen or to have Dual monitors? You can have both.

But both the PC and the TV will need a DVI port to do this.

Then use one of these methods:
