The computer is a:

HP, With windows 10 installed, CPU i3, Mcaffe anti virus, 8gb RAM, approx 2 years old.

The computer was accidentally interrupted whilst installing an update.

I am unable to enter recovery mode etc...

Power on and off your computer three times

On the third time, your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment

Click Advanced Options

Click Troubleshoot

Click Advanced Options

Click System Restore, see if you can go back to an earlier time.

If not, boot into the recovery environment again, then try performing a startup repair.

If that does not work, boot into the recovery environment, then click 'Go back to previous version of Windows'

If that does not work.

Go to a working computer, download, create a bootable copy, then perform a clean install.

Step 1: How to download official Windows 10 ISO files

    Hi Rich,

Corrupted system files can cause your computer to get stuck in the Restoring to previous version screen. Since you've already done some steps to troubleshoot, we just want to confirm this: have you already tried to perform a clean install or a custom install as advised by our MVP Andre Da Costa in his post above?

    We'll wait for your response.

I am still having the same issues.... ive read all pertinant articales and have tried all that I could do. The problem is I cannot get past the black screen with the statment “ Restoring to previous version”.

I have been unable to boot into safe mode by restarting 3x, have tried holding shift also plus while restarting and also F8 after third boot. Nothing seems to get me past this screen.

I had windows 10 (1703), installed before i tried to go to 1709 and have all these problems. The issue has been this way for six days, and Ive tried eveything Ive found on this issue.

    Hi Charles,

Based on the information you have provided, it seems that you're unable to boot to desktop due to interrupted installation of Windows update. We suggest that you perform a repair to Windows 10 using an installation media. Please check this support article : Recovery options in Windows 10. Follow the steps under: Use installation media to restore or reset your PC .

Please update us with results for further assistance.
