Windows 10 Update 1803 Gets Stuck at 43%

I got a brand new computer running Windows 10 last Friday. I long delayed leaving my much beloved Windows 7, and now I know why.

Every time my computer tries to update my OS to 1803, my computer hangs.

It will download the update, install it, reboot, update to 27% and restart, then go almost immediately from 30% to 43%...and stall. For hours. The other night I went to sleep and woke up the next morning and it was still at 43%. I've tried manually doing it; I have no extraneous peripherals plugged in (just my printer). I turned off Windows Defender anti-virus. Nothing works.

This is absurd.

Are there any solutions?

1803 installer always stuck at 43% on my old home built with AMD Radeon 6850. I finally made it work by applying kb4057291 and reinstall AMD driver. However, I don't know which one exactly helpd, or both.

If this is still an issue, I suggest to reinstall AMD Radeon driver directly even it says the same driver was already installed. Once video driver is re-installed, try 1803 installer via Windows update assistant. If still not work, try kb4057291.

    Good luck!

    Jin.

    Two questions:

    1. What is the make and model?
    2. Does the PC have Intel SSD or Toshiba SSD?

    I see two things:

    1. Bitraider driver failed to migrate. So please uninstall it.
    2. Some plugins i.e. Windows features were also having difficulties migrating.

Go to Control Panel>Programs and Features>Turn Windows features on or off. Uncheck unnecessary features you do not need.

So I did what you suggested DaveM121, as I had read that on other forums.

I got a 16gb flash drive, downloaded the ISO, powered down my internet connection, ran the set up. All installed, it did the reboot, and immediately hung at 43%.

I forced it to power down, rebooted, it restored to my earlier version, and I got an error message this time:

    We couldn't install Windows 10

    0xC1900101 - 0x30018

The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation

    Sumit,

I found the files that you asked for, but it won't let me see them. It says I need administrator access, but I am the administrator on my home computer (verified that I'm set up that way).

Hi Prof GenX, have you tried installing the update from the latest Windows 10 ISO?

With these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

    Disconnect from the Internet

Disable any 3rd party Antivirus you may be running

Then, double click it and then run Setup.exe to begin the upgrade . . .
