a dell laptop with windows 10 ver 1803 has the  application (?) SOFTWARE INFORMER.  I  did not download this, i  do not want this. It  is stopping me from downloading some programs that  i want. How do i get rid of SOFTWARE INFORMER ?  Thank you.

    Hi CBSJ, you should uninstall Software Informer totally from your system . . .

    Go to Control Panel - Programs and Features

    Find that app in the list of installed apps and uninstall it

    Then check for that app in your Windows Startup and remove it form there:

    Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

    Click on the Startup Tab

    See if Software Informer is listed there

    If it is, select it and click 'Disable'

    Close Task Manager

    Click your Start Button, type msconfig and hit Enter

    When the System Configuration dialog opens, click on the Services Tab

    Check the box marked 'Hide Microsoft Services'

    In the remaining list see if Software Informer is listed there , uncheck any you find

    Click Apply and OK

    Restart your System and this annoyance will be gone . . .

    After installing, click on “tools” on the left. Look for Software Informer on the list, and see if you can uninstall it.
