Downloading error on select photos from iPhone to PC

This is a new problem over the past 2 months. The only change i have made during this time is I downloaded Itunes. When downloading photos from my iphone 7 to my PC random groups of photos can’t open. The message i recieve is “window photo viewer can’t open this picture because either photo viewer doesn’t support this file format, or you don’t have the latest updates to photo viewer. These photos are all jpeg and taken at times within seconds of eachother and only some can’t be viewed. I have tried to open them in other programs as well without any success! Please help! I don’t want to lose these photos and need to transfer them off my phone. Of note there doesn’t seem to be any problems with photos taken from February on. Only photos from Oct to Jan. Thanks!

I was also incorrect about picture not being incompatible after February. Even some pictures from last week won’t download correctly

Thanks so much for your reply. I read all the info in the link you sent. I am able to download the photos onto my computer but the problem is that it can’t open about 10% of the photos in random order. For seemingly no rhyme or reason. As they are all gifs and taken from my phone (identical to other photos/videos that open without any problem.) I followed the directions in the link you sent and tried to download them again following those specific directions but the format is still not recognized. I’m so confused by this!  Thanks for any help. I don’t want to lose my kid’s Christmas pictures!

    Hi,

    See if this assists you:

Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ...

Ap ple Support: Learn how to transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or PC. We'll also show you how to make your photos available on all your devices with iCloud Photo Library.

    Cheers.
