If you're using Windows 10, Windows Media Player doesn't playback DVD's. You'll need to use another program for this, one of the more popular ones is called VLC Player which is free.
Windows Media Player will not play DVD
I insert a DVD in computer, open Windows Media Player, but the Player will not respond or play the DVD. When I select the DVD from the Player Library in the navigation pane, it will only respond --- Unknown Disc.
I want to insert the disc in the DVD drive, and immediately the Windows Media Player begins to play it.

2018-05-17T19:59:27+00:00 Hi Russel,
In order to play DVD videos using the Windows Media Player, you should have a DVD Drive and a DVD decoder. For Windows 8, you can search for a DVD player app in the Windows Store as an alternative or look for a add-on DVD decoder for WMP online. Once you have the decoder installed on your computer, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Autoplay > Choose what to do with each type of media > DVD movie > Windows Media Player > Save to make Windows Media player automatically play your DVD once inserted.
Regards.
