First tap on the Action Center icon on the taskbar and go to All Settings.

    Now select Network and Internet

In the left panel, tap on Wi-Fi.
Now in the right panel, check out for the option Change Adapter Options. Tap on it.

The Change Adapter Options will options will open the Network Connections. You will find the network connection to which your computer or tablet is connected.

Double click on the wireless connection to open the Wi-Fi status. Go to Wireless Properties.

Under Connection tab, find out “Connect automatically when this network is in range“. By default it is enabled. To disable it, uncheck the option and tap ok.

I want system to automatically disconnect my internet connection when I shut down my laptop.  It used to do that but feature apparently removed by subsequent updates.  If I don't manually choose disconnect, it shows connected next time I turn on laptop.  The "automatic connect" option is not enabled.

Found Wireless Properties,  but neither option box was checked.  I checked 1st option, then unchecked it, then exited app.  Then I shut down computer but did not manually disconnect internet. Also confirmed "connect automatically" option not checked.  When I turned laptop on, it immediately showed internet connection still active.  😔

Hello. Could you please clarify what is meant by disconnect when you shutdown your laptop? Anytime that your PC is powered off Windows would be shut down and inactive
