How my friends collborate on my Azure student account

Hi,
I am a student and using Azure free student account. I have my other group members. We are doing a class project. Therefore I want them to collaborate with me and we all work together on our project in my azure account. I want that they can create new resources on my account as needed and also code in existing resources and can also use existing resources. Currently I tried to achieve this with sending them invitation as guest users but after accepting the invitation they can't see any thing that I have already created.

Can you please help me and let me know how can we achieve this so that we all group members work on same project in my Azure account. Thank you for your help.

Hi @Ans M ,

the invite was the first part to get there.

Now you have to add the user accounts to an Azure role.

Navigate to Subscriptions in the Azure Portal
Follow the steps described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/role-based-access-control/role-assignments-portal?tabs=current#step-2-open-the-add-role-assignment-pane
In the Add role assignment dialog choose Contributor in the Role drop-down list.
Follow all the steps to the end

@Andreas Baumgarten thank you for your answer which was very useful and very reassuring - as I have a similar issue I am planning.

The difference is that I am faculty and I would like to set my class a project and then be able to see what they have done to assess it. The students and I all have free Azure for Student accounts.

My plan is to create a separate resource group for each student and invite the student to the resource group and change their role within that resource group to Contributor. I am yet to test this, but this seems similar to the situation above. I have a number of questions...

Will it work? (i.e. will students be able to create and use resources within the resource groups they are assigned that I can also access?) Your answer above suggests yes.

If it works, who will own the resource (i.e. against whose credits will any use be charged?)

Is there a way I can enforce a deadline for the assignment - so that students can no longer modify the resources? For example can I change their role to Reader by a certain date, and will this stop them from modifying any resources they have created?

Hi @Agneau Belanyek ,

related to your first question: It will work, yes.

related to your second question: Every Azure subscription is a billing entity. Which means each subscription will be charged for the containing services/resources. The Resource Groups can be used for applying permissions and filtering the costs of Azure resources. But Resource Groups aren't a billing entity like an Azure subscription.

Related to you third question: As long the Contributor role is assigned to a user the user will be able to create Azure objects/resources. If you remove the user from Contributor role and add the user to the Reader role he will be able to "see" the resources but is not allowed to create new resources nor modify exiting resources.
