How do I disable my touch screen, and why does it periodically re-enable itself?

I can't stand the touch screen. It freaks out when I or my dog, or my wife accidentally touch the screen. I've disabled it before, but it came back, and I can't remember how I did it. I found a locked thread that listed steps starting with Windows + X, then select control panel. As often happens, it fails on step 2 because the menu that comes up with Windows + X does not contain a control panel option. Searching for pen and touch settings gets me nowhere.

Please help.

There are multiple ways to get to the control panel or its "new & improved" version called "Settings". You can also search for it in the start menu.

You can actually directly search for "Pen" in the Start menu. Sorry, I can't be specific after that point because I don't have touch.

Here are instructions for a different approach:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402801...

MS has a nasty habit of being lazy/sloppy programmers (that is the kind excuse) who don't keep track of current user settings, forcing the settings back to MS defaults when various updates are pushed out on us.

What I like to do in this sort of situation is when I find a tip that I expect to use again, I save the link as a "favorite" in my browser (I have over 20K "favorites" collected). So I can search my favorites collection for key words. I also have multiple documents with "tips collections". I take the instructions and either copy the text whole (that way when the web site "dies", I still have the information) or translate them into terms that I understand (and I keep a copy of the link to the original article). So when have to redo something, I can open my tips document and search for keywords, ie "Disable Pen" to find the tip again.

Because the touch screen is considered as a primary method of input just like your keyboard and mouse, it is not intended to be disabled permanently.

Depending on the make and model, there might be a built in option to disable it using manufacturers controls.

What is the exact make and model?

    Open Start, type: system information

    Hit Enter

    Click System summary

    Look in the right pane

Copy the system sku info into reply here.

    See example: https://imgur.com/qzektpA

For the time being, these are your options:

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Human Interface Devices

    Right click HID-Compliant touch screen

    Click Disable

    also...

    Open Start, type: regedit

    Right click regedit

    Click Run as administrator

    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch

Change the TouchGate value to '0'

    Exit then restart.

If you have the Lenovo's "Write It" app installed, remove it then try again.
