Hello,

I have the Dell inspiron 15 5558 and i wanted to know that mine got a partition called the "EFI system partition" which is of 100mb. So, when i will go to clean install of windows 10 to the step to delete all my partitions, will that system reserved partition be recreated during install? Or i have to click on new, and then that system reserved partition gets created(which will be of 500mb for windows10 according to my research)?

Okay, so those videos are considered true for Bios based computer as maybe bios doesn't have EFi, etc and they have only system reserved partition for booting windows.

I searched on my computer which configuration is there which is UEFI so i don't need to delete EFI as you said earlier to not delete it because it is the essential part of UEFi config for faster speeds and reliability.

Also, i notice some things in system information which i don't know. Can you tell me what is that?

Here it is marked in blue highlighting...

    Thanks

    Okay,

I have understood now for installing and creating the WRE.

Also, a few questions i want to ask that when i will create that WRE partition by shrinking and not labelling it, does windows will automatically recognise that partition for use for set of recovery files.

Then what about the MSR, Is it okay to not have it.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

You should not have deleted the MSR, but windows will most likely create one on install. Also, you should not have deleted the WRE partition either, as this is for storing info for recovery methods and info for like system images.

But as you have now, Just install to C:\

But then you have partition F:\ which is software for windows 8.1 from your OEM which most all is useless on windows 10. So I would copy whatever programs on F:\ that you can use for 10, excluding system drivers etc, and copy them to partition D:.

Then I would either delete partition F:\ or shrink it down to 350 MB for the WRE partition and remove the drive letter F:\ from it.

Then just install to C:\ and leave everything alone.

When you select to install windows to C:\ you can quick format C:\ "ONLY" quick NTFS format or just install without formatting. You do not need to format as the previous version with be gone on new install as the old Volume label is deleted.

Do not delete or format your EFI, leave it alone.

    hi,

You are saying that i should not delete them (the EFI System partition) and just install windows to primary or main partition. Please tell me that i am correct in understanding this. If i am not, please give some easy step to do so.

Also, If i delete all my partitions including EFI and then click next to install windows, can't that be recreated.  The disk looks like this

The MSR reserved partition i have deleted on previous clean install and also the recovery which was of win8.1 which i don't want. Please help.

If you are doing a clean install in a PC that already had windows installed.

I would open Computer management>>Disk management

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools

If there is an EFI partition, then there will be at least 2 others showing

The MSR partition will be hidden and most likely not shown.

    1. EFI
    2. MSR (Hidden)
    3. C:\Windows
    4. WRE

Note: there might be additional partitions for OEM reserves or for additional storage space.

The EFI Partition is the FAT file format. The others are NTFS.

Just put the install media in, do not diskpart or format. just select to install in C:\
