Speaker Default Format automatically defaults to 16bit 44100Hz instead of the user selected 24Bit 44100Hz on restart

Hi,

I have a Win10 Pro x64 PC that is capable of 24 bit sound quality.

The PC's volume control function from the taskbar sometimes doesn't work when i left/right click on it when it is in 24bit mode after restarting the PC.

I have to go to Control Panel -> Sound to open up the volume control. I would like to control the Main volume and certain App volumes respectively as I would expect to do.

  • Sometimes it will automatically default its format to 16bit 44100Hz and default the 7.1 surround sound to standard stereo mode as well. Why is this?

When I attempt to leave this as is, the volume control works as normal for that boot-up however, when I restart again then the problem recurs.

  • Why does my volume control function stop working straight after a restart whether it's just a routine restart or if a program requires a restart?
  • I do have an onboard Realtek sound card and it's accompany motherboard software as well as Dolby Control Center however, I have uninstalled this and even tried to run it on standard MS drivers with the same effect. Whether it is a fresh install or repair install, the problem persists.

There were none of these problems with Windows 7. I don't believe it is hardware related.

What could the problem be with Windows 10?

" Why does my volume control function stop working straight after a restart whether it's just a routine restart or if a program requires a restart? "

I found out that if I restart Explorer.exe in task manager that it rectifies the problem. 100% functioning.

Could this problem occur with the timing that Explorer.exe or other handle is loaded into memory prior to logging in with the user password?

ie. From login screen, to loaded desktop and all additional processes and applications

I ask this because I do not have any issues with my Realtek software or hardware. I am having troubles with basic OS functions. This issue still persists even though I have a workaround.

"Sometimes it will automatically default its format to 16bit 44100Hz and default the 7.1 surround sound to standard stereo mode as well. Why is this?"

This issue was rectified automatically after a windows update.

    Hi,

There's a possibility that the drivers of your sound card aren't compatible with Windows 10 and that's why the changes that you're trying to do aren't being retained after a restart. We suggest that you install the latest version of your drivers from your manufacturer's website. You can refer to this article for the steps on how to: Install and Update Hardware Drivers in Windows 10.

You can also do the same changes on a different user profile so we can isolate if the issue is user specific. In case that you don't have other user profiles, you can refer to this article for a complete guide on how to create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10.

Let us know how it goes and we'll assist you further.
