Windows 10 1709 - NAS Access Issues

Anonymous

A recent Windows 10 update has removed network drive access to my D-Link DNS-325 NAS.

Tried various fixes detailed on the web but none work.

My Apple iMac laptop can still connect to these network drives, and in File Explorer on Windows 10 I can see the device in 'Media Devices' and in 'Storage', but nothing in 'Computer' to allow access to the files.

Any help to solve this appreciated!

    Billy,

That's really strange. Maybe you can try popping into your NAS's web interface by going into your web browser, and punching in your IP address through the browser?

If you haven't set up access for it yet or haven't been there before, it should be admin as the username, and no password.

    Here's the manual: http://www.dlink.ua/sites/default/files/DNS-325...

Refer to page 214 (in the PDF itself, the PDF reader will pick it up as page 219) and see if you can enable anonymous access as the login method under Local Backups.

    Hey Billy,

Sounds like your D-Link NAS must use some older version of SMB.

To confirm this, hit Windows key + R together to go into Run, type in "optionalfeatures" without quotes.

A new Windows Features window should open. Look for "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support", enable it, and restart when prompted.

Hopefully this would fix it. Let me know, Billy.

No problem, Billy, let's try something else.

You said it wasn't appearing in Computer (or This PC on Windows 10) but it was appearing in Media Devices and Storage? Go to This PC (Start menu, look for This PC), right click a blank space, then click "Add a network location", does your NAS appear?

    Keep me posted.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: optionalfeatures.exe

    Hit Enter

Scroll down to SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support

    Tick the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client

Untick SMB 1.0/CIFS Automatic Removal and

    Untick SMB 1.0/CIFS Server

    Click OK

    Restart if prompted.
