Windows7 OEM home premium re-installation

Hi,

Long story short:

I can't re-install or recover my windows on laptop and looking for help.

Details:

I have the Lenovo E330 laptop which came with pre-installed windows7 home premium, (i guess OEM) - there's a sticker at the bottom with product key.

After some time it got free-upgraded to Windows 10. Fine.

After a while PC got trashed with redundant software, etc and become so much unusable so I had to attempt to recover to manufacturer state which didn't go successfully - MBR got corrupted, windows doesn't load at all.

I've temporarly installed on that laptop some windows from suspicious distributive (since I don't have the disk / ISO handy) but I'd like to return back to my licensed copy of windows7.

For which I was attempting to download  it from MS support portal - wsoftware-download/windows7 but there when I'm trying to verify the product key I'm getting an error that there are problems with my validation request and suggestion to read FAQ and if I still believe my windows is genuine - try to get in touch with support which eventually lands me to this forum.

Please advice:

  1. Can I get windows7 home premium iso somehow? What's the steps?
  2. Would my OEM key work on it now? Or should I somehow call anyone do some other magic? :)
  3. Would it be possible to upgrade it again to Windows10? Or, maybe, it's possible straight away to DL windows10 and apply my OEM key for it's activation somehow?
  4. By any chance is it still possible somehow to recover the factory windows using the factory reset of lenovo? (So far I've learned that probably no, but still... maybe there are slight chance? )

Thank you.

Case has been answered via phone by MS support team.

For reference for others - in my case it's OEM windows so I have to contact manufacturer of my laptop.

I think you will find Lenovo no longer carries Windows 7 Recovery disks.

Read this on what to do now:

Microsoft does not supply Windows 7 ISO downloads for preinstalled operating system Product Keys for Dell, HP, etc. machines

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

If preinstalled, you can also contact your Laptop/Computer Manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of Recovery Disks.

They should do that for a small cost, IF they still have them available (Most don't).

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

You can also borrow the exact same edition of Windows 7 Retail DVD and use your Product Key on the COA sticker to reinstall the operating system.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Or you can use this for preinstalled OEM or Retail Licenses

Download the correct ISO file and make your own disk and use the Product Key that is on the COA Sticker.

    https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool

    Download: Windows ISO Downloader.exe

    Version: 6.00

Release Date: 11 April 2018 (to be released tomorrow)

Requirements: Windows 7 or newer, .NET Framework 4.x, Internet Explorer 8 or newer.

Important: As of Version 6.00, we're adding back an experimental feature to generate links for Windows 7 and Office 2010. Generation of new links for these products is throttled, and not every download is always available in every language. New links are generated on a first come first served basis, with users who enable the idle resource donation getting preferential treatment. If you have further questions, please use theWinCert Forum to get in touch, so that other users can also benefit from the discussion.

And here are instructions on how to burn ISO images to disk:

You change the Boot Order in the BIOS to be able to boot from your installation media:

    Then do a clean install:

The COA sticker is either on the underside of the Laptop or in the Battery Compartment.

With a Desktop it is either on the side, rear or top of the Computer Case.

Using the downloaded ISO file Method may require phone Activation.

If it does require phone Activation, do not follow the Auto Prompts, but hold on for a real person to explain to as to what has been done for re-installation purposes

The above method also will require you to go to your Computer Manufacturer's website > Support and Downloads Section > locate your Model Number and Operating System > then download and install the latest Drivers for it.

Thank you Bill, your answer was very helpful (in fact even more helpful than voice call support provided me).

I've managed to re-install the Win10 and license/activation really got picked from MS servers via internet automatically.

Yep; that is what it is supposed to do.

Glad you got 10 back up and running again.

And thanks for letting me know. It is good to hear back from people letting us know that it worked out OK.

    Cheers.
