Realtek PCIE Card Reader No Longer Functions After Fall Creator Update 1709

Hello.  My HP Laptop was updated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators update 1709 back in November.  Since then, my SD Card reader no longer functions.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.  I have searched all over google for potential fixes for this and so far nothing has worked.  I tried to troubleshoot the hardware.  Windows shows there is a problem with the drivers but offers no solutions.  When checking the properties in the device manager, it says the following:

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The request is not supported."

Is there any way to fix this?

I had this same problem and did everything that the microsoft support said to do with no resolve.

    Fix

Go to Realtek.com and click the download link. In the download search box to the left type "card reader" and hit enter. You'll see a link that reads, "RTS5101/RTS5111/RTS5116/RTS5169 (Software)" click on it. The next page will give you the downloads according to your system. If you're running windows then click the very top link in the far right that says "global". The zip file will begin to download when its complete open it, double click the folder then scroll down to the "setup.exe" file. run it and follow the prompts and your card reader will start working right away.

    Hope this helps! :)

The Memory Technology Devices category was not in the device manager.   I had to use the add legacy hardware option under the Actions menu to make it reappear.  This is what I see:

OK, that is normal and the default so the issue does not appear to be at that registry key.

Not sure which drivers you have installed but try the driver directly from Realtek (10.0.370.162) - extract the drivers and run the setup.exe:

    http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Uninstall any previously installed Realtek card reader driver under "Apps and features" prior to installing the new driver.

I think I have resolved the issue.

    ASUS R752S/R752A/R752SV/Clevo N870HZ/Clevo N8xxHZ/Thinkpad P70/P50/MSI GT73VR TITAN PRO/Alienware 17 R3/HP 650/ACER Aspire One Happy2 N578Qpp

    Realtek PCIE Card Reader

(at least the first notebook is based on chipset RTL8411B - package has propably support for more chipsets. DEV_5287).

    Windows 10 Version 1709 16299.248

I realized that Realtek started to name drivers by compilation names (16299), so I googled for that number of drivers, and found this:

    download.msi.com/nb_drivers/cr/cr_RtsPer_10.0.16299.21304_W7W8WBW10RS1RS2RS3_WHQL_20171027_10.0.16299.21304_0xd7a6968e.zip

    Contains:

Realtek PCIE Card Reader PCIE 10.0.16299.21304

    (x86/x64 inside).

    1. Unistall previous drivers from Control Panel (Realtek Card Reader)
    2. Reboot
    3. Unpack and click setup exe (and maybe reboot)
    4. I had memory card already inside. I ejected it, pressed lock on my adapter from microSD, and then inserted again. Card became visible. Even after pressing lock button again in previous position. Probably when I only ejected and inserted card while cheking various drivers versions, it didn't help anyhow. The bug could be related to my adapter. But I don't know. Anyway, I found the newest posible drivers, and they work.

Also, can you do the following:

In the Device Manager right-click the card reader > Properties > Details, then choose "Hardware Ids" from the drop-down menu under "Property".

    What is listed under "Value"?
