    • What is the name of the game or games you are having the problem with ?

The vast majority of DX9 games will run on Win10, but there are some issues with many disk based games that can be addressed.

People on a lot of forums still  suggest using the DX 9.0c installer, but this was superseded by the DirectX Redist (June 2010)

    installer package long ago (2010).

This installer has the same older DX9 files that 9.0c has in addition to DX10/11 files that are not in 9.0c.

    • This installer reinstalls/overwrites all DX files (except the two DX12 files) and can be useful when there are corrupt DX files

and no  error message that specifies a particular DX file, eg- d3dx9_25.dll.

However,  before using the DirectX Redist (June 2010) installer, run the DirectX Web Installer.

This will install any missing DX files, but it does not overwrite DX files that are already in your Windows.

(be careful to clear the tic box next to 'install Bing'  )

Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

    • If you get a message that your DX is 'newer or equivalent'  and still have issues with your game/program you may

    need to reinstall DX.

(If you get an error from a game that specifies a particular DX file you can delete that file from System32 and sysWOW64

and when you run the Web Installer again it will replace the now 'missing' file.)

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010)

( Note that this installer first unpacks the files to a location of your choice. A new folder on the desktop is good as you delete the

folder after the second step - Open the folder and run the DXSETUP.exe to finish reinstalling DX )

    .

What is your hardware spec, mainly graphics. DirectX is built into Windows 10 and you shouldn't need to install it. If you have a program or game that request DirectX 9 then perhaps it isn't compatible with Windows 10.

What version/build level of Windows 10 do you have.

Try running dxdiag from the run command and look at the supported Feature levels in the Drivers section, or post a screenshot of the Display tab.
