How to change the SharePoint product key in SP 2013, 2016 and 2019 environments

Hi,

We have SharePoint 2013, 2016 and 2019 environments with SharePoint Enterprise version.

The current product key is expired (i.e the email associated with the key is no longer in use).

Now we have new product keys with new email id.

Is there a way to update this through central admin or PowerShell scripts?

In following situation, we could change the key via go to CA >Upgrade and Migration>Convert farm license type>Enter the new product key:

If you have SharePoint Standard, then you can upgrade it to SharePoint Enterprise.
If you are on SharePoint Standard Trial, then you can go regular SharePoint Standard or Enterprise.
If you are on SharePoint Enterprise trial, then you can go only to regular SharePoint Enterprise edition.

If none of the above are satisfied, we suggest you rebuild the farm using the new key and migrate data .

Hi @Rahini Radha (AP) ,

If I remember correctly once a SharePoint farm is licensed with the Enterprise license, the key cannot be changed, to change it would most likely require re-building a new farm.

Are you sure your product key has expired or just the email address?

Hi @Leon Laude ,

Thanks for the response.

The product key is expired.

My current company is merged with another one. Hence the existing Microsoft partnership licenses is expiring. So all keys associated with current company is expiring.

We got new keys from parent company.

Is there any other alternate way to handle the situation?
