Windows 10: Network sharing problem between desktops with win7 and laptop with win10
I have 3 computers networked, 2 are desktops with windows 7 pro (updated) and then a laptop with window 10 pro (1803). The error above shows every time I try to access the laptop from either of the windows 7 desktops. This just happened after the upgrade to windows 10 pro version 1803 on the laptop. Prior to the update of 1803 I was using the homegroup on windows 10 pro and everything worked fine. I could access the laptop from any of the other computers and vice versa. Now I can access the 2 desktops (windows 7 pro) from the Laptop (windows 10 pro) but neither of the desktops can access the laptop.
All three are running Kaspersky Internet security with the latest updates.
I've set all the permissions on all three computers to everyone giving full access
I've set all the security to everyone
I've changed the sharing options to match all three
On the laptop
I've set two services to automatic (delayed start):
Function Discovery Provider Host
Function Discovery Resource Publication
I've tried to set a new folder in My Documents and only share this one folder, didn't work
I've uninstalled Kasperksy completely using revo uninstaller
I've turned off the windows firewall
I've tried to network map the drive and then a single folder, does not work
I've reset the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlset/Control/NetworkProvider/HwOrder
I've Turned off password protected sharing
I've renamed the computer and changed the workgroup names
I can ping the computer from the desktop and it will show
I can share printers
Only 4 things I notice are different:
1. The desktops show Home network on the network and sharing center and the laptop shows Private network
2. When I go to change the workgroup names in the control panel it asks, is it for business or personal, no matter which I pick it reverts back to business network.
3. The laptop is connected through WiFi and the desktops are Ethernet connections.
4. the network and sharing page on the laptop (windows 10) shows a group called all networks. This does not show on the windows 7 desktops.
Does anyone else have any suggestions that might help?

2018-05-09T14:21:01+00:00 Thanks, I've submitted it to Microsoft:
They also gave me this link:
feedback-hub:?contextid=98&feedbackid=822a84bc-a7e8-462e-a9c8-9ea29708d425&form=1&src=1
Although they say it's hard to share this.
Let me know if I've done this correctly.

2018-05-09T03:47:04+00:00 Hi again Terry -
It seems like for some Windows 10 is breaking network sharing.
If you want to report this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. But Microsoft will not even see it here because this is a tech forums where we are mostly volunteers trying to help solve your problems.
If you want to post back a share link to your feedback, others can vote it up and add to it and I will try to vote it up with my MVP badge.

2018-05-09T03:10:28+00:00 I shut down all the computers and rebooted the network router
I tried browsing all the computers using the Windows + R command
I can browse all the computers on the Laptop, but the Desktop gives me the same error when I try to browse the laptop from a windows 7 desktop.
Started the "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" services, and then set them to Automatic (Delayed Start) on all computers, no change
Opened Explorer Network, enable network discovery when you are prompted, was never prompted but all the network computers show on all computers.
started over and set it up again: https://pureinfotech.com/setup-network-file-sha... ,
This works only if your version of Windows 10 has HOMEGROUP. Windows 10 with update 1803 eliminates HOMEGROUP which is where my problems began. Also they suggest OneDrive, that works through the browser on a Microsoft Account. Not what I want to do because in order for it to work correctly every computer needs to be on Windows 10, or use the files through a browser.
These troubleshooting steps: https://www.lifewire.com/troubleshooting-window...
I've done all of these and they are all set correctly.
I'm still getting the same network error that I showed on the above image. From all the research I've read, I'm not the only one with this problem. At this time I still can't access the laptop through my network from any of the desktop windows 7 computers.

2018-05-09T00:44:25+00:00 Hi Terry. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.
This is the latest fix that's working for Version 1803 breaking networks. Please try it and report back:
- shut all computer and network gear down then start again.
- Try browsing to some of the computers manually, press Windows key + R, type: \computername, hit Enter
- Press Windows key + R
Type: services.msc
Hit Enter
- Start the "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" services, and then set them to Automatic (Delayed Start).
- When you open Explorer Network, enable network discovery when you are prompted.
If not then start over and set it up again: https://pureinfotech.com/setup-network-file-sha...
If it still fails go over these troubleshooting steps: https://www.lifewire.com/troubleshooting-window...
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
