Ghost Circles & Erratic Mouse

ver 1803 - Lenovo all-in-one

Ghost circles and erractic mouse with multiple windows opening randomly. The mouse cursor seems to get caught in those ghost circles that scroll down the screen The same thing happened after the big fall update At that time I disabled the touch screen and it fixed it. Now though I can barely log in. The login box is grayed out and if I do a right click + control I can type one character then I have to do the same action again for the next character. Also, I cannot use Chrome.

If I get this fixed, will it happen after every big update? It is ridiculous that Microsoft sends out updates that end up breaking your PC.

I appreciate the help.

    Hello MtnWoman54

Sometimes updates don't turn out as expected . In that scenario , to rollback to a previous and more stable build is a good option. Here is the procedure:

I have found the solution to quiet these ghost circles and erratic mouse activity by unistalling the touchscreen driver under the Human Interface Devices (HID) in Device Manager (Windows icon + X).  But, this has to be done every time the computer is started up.  I have to unistall it as soon as I power up every time until a true patch or MS solution is impletmented.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad and it has been debilitating to try to work.  But, unistalling this driver allows me to work and removes all ghost circles and erratic mouse activities.

    Hope it helps!

Thanks but I did that on the prior big install. That time I was able to keep the update and it eliminated the ghost circles and mouse issue.  I didn't have to turn off the touch screen each time though.

With this last big update I had to uninstall it completely and revert to the prior update. I still wonder what happens when they do the next big install and I don't have the most recent version.

I don't think I've even installed any updates since then. When there's an update, I turn on sleep mode overnight and in the morning the update notice is gone. Maybe it's updating anyway.

I wonder if this is a problem limited to the Lenovo brand. If it is, Microsoft isn't going to do a fix.

Thanks for trying to help me. It is horrible until you figure out about turning off the touchscreen.

Agree, and I have been reluctant to go back before last big update.  For now, this works for me but is so unfortunate that this is not yet resolved since it seems to be common.  It is not limited to Lenovo, but it does not seem to be all brands of laptops.  Hope MS is listening and looking for permanent fix.  Will keep your solution in mind if I get fed up with always having to uninstall drivers.  Peace.

Thank god that worked! But now my question is what happens -

    • when I go to shutdown - will it want to install v. 1803 again and how would I stop it.
    • for future updates - what happens when there are regular updates and I don't have v. 1803 installed?
    • and when there's the next really big update, what happens if i don't have v. 1803 installed.

Thank you for the reply. I was so frustrated I was ready to go buy a new PC tomorrow.
