Windows 10 applications open prior to logging in

I am assuming this is a setting or something but when my PC boots up and gets to the login screen it will automatically launch applications before I even log in. Sometimes before I even click Ctrl+Alt+Delete at the login screen I will hear a video playing from a browser I have set to automatically launch. It's as if my account is opening and running once the PC boots up. This could be a flaw or working as intended with an option enabled but it poses issues for me, is there a way to stop this behavior?

Thanks in advance,

Running Windows 10, 64-bit, Version 1803, build 17134.48

    Hey MylesJPM,

There is actually something you can try, it worked in 1709 but I'm unsure of its effect in 1803, but I suppose that it's worth a try.

Go to Start, type in the following: Sign-in options

Click that option. You should see a new Sign-in options window. Scroll down, and disable "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update or restart".

Let me know if this does the job or not, good luck.

Hi Myles, this is a new 'feature' in Windows 10, but it does have bugs and Microsoft are working on it . . .

Here is a workaround which should work until Microsoft roll out the patch:

Right click your Desktop, choose New - Shortcut

    Set Target to: %WINDIR%\system32\shutdown.exe /s /hybrid /t 0

    Name it: Shutdown

If you use that shortcut to shut your system down, the apps should not auto-open on startup . . .

    Hello,

This is actually a feature designed to save time. But if it annoys you, turn it off as mentioned here:
