hi,
Well, we'll start with the easiest, "uncover" the icons, I do not think that's the reason, but here's the first step to take. On your "empty" desktop, right click with the mouse, in the pop-up menu that will appear, left click on VIEW and left click on the option "Show icons on the desktop", make sure that this option is always checked. If it did not work, do not worry, it was just to discard.
In some cases, Windows "considers" that we have many direct links, files or folders on our desktop and "disappears" them. Just enough to right click with your mouse on the desktop, then left click on VIEW and check the option "Organize icons automatically." With this, surely, all your icons will be restored.
If applying these two methods, the desktop icons are not shown in Windows 8, the most likely is that you have an infection in your computer, you will have to resort then to a complete scan with an antivirus software
Once your system is clean, you may have to access the folder options to remove the "hidden" attribute from your files.
To open Folder Options, click the Start button
Control Panel
Appearance and personalization
Folder options.
Click on the tab View
Click Show hidden drives, folders and files
click on OK
Look for the missing icons on the desktop, and right click on the icon you want to display, and then click Properties.
Next to the attributes, uncheck the hidden box, and then click OK.
I hope it helps you
